Allergies?

So I have pretty severe allergies and I have had my fit for less than a week now. And I have been having some pretty bad reactions whenever Im in it. I have researched it a little bit and found a few articles explaining that "new car smell" is actually the smell of particles in the air from all the new plastics and synthetic fabrics, and that it can irritate existing allergies.

I was just curious if anyone else has experienced the same problem. And if so, if it has gotten any better and after how long. For now I have just been driving with the windows down.

Do you have the HVAC vents on open flow or closed? I have springtime allergies, but besides dust, I've never been irritated inside the Fit.

If your allergies gotten worse is from the new plastics and synthetic fabrics of your Fit, then driving with the vents close would make it worse! I suggest using a damp cloth with just water to wipe all the interior surface down and drive with the vents and windows open. Also to "speed" getting rid of the smell of a new car is to leave it in the sun. Good luck and hope you'll feel better!

My allergies deal with pollen and exterior items. That being said, to play it safe, I keep some sudafed in the car in case they act up. Good luck.

I definitely noticed a smell beside the new car smell in my Fit at first. But just like the above great information states - open those vents, air the car out when you can and it will go away. Wiping down with a nice damp cloth will get rid of any particles that have been floating around and landed on your interior dash etc.

Give it a little more time and you should be great!

I'm allergic to everything known to man when it comes to being outside. Just had an allergy skin test to prove that... anyway, since i have had my fit i run the a/c or just fan on and since it has a filter element, i've had no problems while inside my car.

I have had my fit since 2/10 and since then I have had a rash. I have been tested for food and chemical allergies and have eliminated all that has been discovered and yet I still have the rash. It seems to start about an hour after I'm in the car. I have purchased a car seat and washed it in safe detergent but this doesn't help. I'm waiting to hear if Honda has anything to say.

honestly speaking i too do not like the new car smell because of all the outgassing. i dont have allergies but the smell gives me a headache at times.

i think the fastest way to rid new car smell is to keep the windows open as much as you can and keep it in direct UV...if you have a secured area you can park with your windows down in the hot sun i recommend it. seems like heat, UV, and wind wears off the smell quickly.
