1st Maintenance
1st Maintenance
Sup people.
My NHBP Fit is coming up on 5k miles, shes about 6 months old now from the dealership and they keep sending me letters to get her serviced.
I was always under the impression to only take in when the maintenance light comes on, which it hasn't yet. Is this the time to take it in or just wait it out til the light comes on?

This topic has been fought back and forth on it. I changed mine the first time at 5000 miles but the light was not on yet. But i drove the car hard i thought from CA to FL and with all the heat and long hours on it i wanted it changed early. But my next change i will wait for the 15-20% like my manual says to
I was in that same boat too. I drove my car from So Cal to San Francisco a couple times and even tho I was still only at 30% w/ the oil, the car felt a bit off.
Went in on Saturday day, they said I could come back @ 15%, but I figured I was there, might as well change it. Also had the tires rotated and the fluids topped off. Car feels definately feels better.

Change the oil.
Although this debate is endless, as a mechanic with over two decades of experience I have this to say.
Oil is cheap.
All new cars "want" you to keep the oil in as long as possible. The reasons for this vary from enviormental to extended maintenance. Send that oil in for analysis if you want. You will find it high in moly additives and high in particulate. But the oil will still be good at 3000km.
I sent mine in at 2100 miles. It was loaded with assembly lubes and additives. Lots of particulate. The oil was still good and was an approximate sample of what a new engine would produce. But it was time to change it. Usually I swap the oil at 500 miles but never got around to it on the Fit.
The reason you want to change the oil is to rid the engine of this particulate held in suspension.
Of course there wil be people who will tell you that "new engines have no particulate and are made sooo much better"....
But then some of these guys have never opened up and engine.
