I bought a 2009 Fit Sport automatic two weeks ago and I've driven 100 miles in city traffic (West LA), but not bumper-to-bumper. Right now, I'm down half a tank and the computer says I'm averaging 24.6 mpg. Isn't this a bit low for this car?

In Argentina, I drove a 07 Fit with CVT automatic transmission. And, unlike my 09 in LA, the ride was MUCH smoother. I can really feel the gears changing on my new Fit (almost as bad as the Suzuki SX4). Furthermore, it only seems to change gears when I really hit the gas pedal and it goes over 3K rpm. I'm not used to this type of "jolty ride".

Is my Fit getting the correct mileage and is this automatic gear changing normal?

It's too early to tell. 100 miles on the car is nowhere close to having the engine being broken into.

 

yeah. give it time. dont make a judgement about the car at 100 miles. also, you will *hopefully* get better at driving the longer you drive your fit. with that mpg gauge, although very optimistic, you'll WANT to get all you can as far as miles/gallon

 

Meh, I'm so glad we didn't get the CVT here. Too many problems with the Civic HX CVT.

 

Thanks for all of your replies. I guess I'll give the engine more time to break in. However, is it normal that I feel the gears changing so much? The automatic transmission feels a little cheap compared to other cars like the Mini, especially when trying to go uphill. Why is this?

And the CVT in Latin America works like a charm honestly - never had a problem.

I'm saying the automatic transmission feels cheap and bland compared to other automatic cars like the Mini. Whenever I go uphill, I have to push the accelerator fully or the car loses strength.

Is this normal?

no power + autotragic = you gotta floor it and itll shift to go up a hill

 

From someone who has owned a '07 A/T Sport Fit, and now owns a '09 A/T Sport Fit, there is a major difference between the transmissions on the early and present day Fits. The gearing is different in the '09's, and I feel that the new transmissions are less efficient in using the limited power of the engine. Second gear in the GD A/T was great, whether you used "D" or used the paddles in "S". Not so in the GE's. For freeway driving in "D", the GE's are just OK, but the GD's in BOTH "D" And "S" with the paddles made much better use of the limited power from the engine. Comparing the two transmissions, I have to say that I DISLIKE (but will live with, no choice) the GE trans. I am mainly complaining about the change in gear ratios. Too tall in the GE's, but the MPG also reflects the bad choice (by Honda) in those ratios.
