Bicycle Rack

Does anyone know of a bicycle rack that fits on the, ummm, Fit? It would be nice to have so I can throw my bike on the car and go instead of taking the fron wheel off and flipping up the magic seat everytime. Plus I don't want to get the inside dirty.

I talked to Saris yesterday, and they have no time line for the Fit. My LBS said Thule might have something for the Europeans since they have the Jazz over there.

I'm still taking off my wheel and folding seats, too. How are you securing your fork? I'm holding mine down with an old Saris truck-bed mount squeezed into the back.

Thanks for the update. I haven't taken delivery of the car yet (2 weeks), but I want to get an idea of how to best carry my bike around. So unfortunately I can't offer any suggestions on how to secure the forks inside the car. Maybe bungee cords?

I tried a google search, but came up with nothing specific for the Fit. I hope Thule will make something for the Fit, as I really like their products. Let me know if you manage to find something.

Cheers.

I found the Euro-Thule racks for the Jazz. I'd be reluctant to buy them until someone from Thule confirmed that they would work on the Fit. I know they're supposed to be the same car, but what if the door channels are slightly different.

Anyway, here's the website: http://www.car-roofracks.co.uk/cgi-b...racks_bars.cgi

Well, in the photos in the brochures, the bike can Fit inside when in tall mode. The wheel might have to be turned 180 or removed tho

Good find, I would think it would be Ok, but I agree I would probably wait. Maybe I'll send them an e-mail.

European Jazz Thule system?

MisFIT -- I'm in US and I'm also trying to see if I can get the Thule system they use on the European version of the Fit (Jazz) to work (going to talk to my Thule dealer today)... this would give you a roof mount option for your bikes. There are probably some hatch/lid-mount systems that could work as well.

UK part numbers are:

Gutterless Foot Pack Part #:750

Bars - 120cm Part #:761

Rapid Fitting Kit Part #:1312

Check out this link for the roof rack system:

Here is my current setup. I clamp the forks in an old saris truck bed mount, and tuck the front wheel under the shifters. I still have room for my son's carseat in the "40" half of the magic seats.

The way the bike is angled allows me to pack my saddlebag through the driver side, rear door window without taking the bike out of the car every night.

I think I'd still prefer a roof rack, but this works for now.

I am a fan of the trailer hitch bike rack method of transporting bicycles with my car. You can easily get two bikes, two people, all the gear and the family dog to your riding place. The bike/s, if dirty and wet, stay on the outside of the car. You also don't have them dripping mud and rocks all over the roof of your beautiful car. I live in North Vancouver BC Canada and do more moutain biking, so this is fairly important.

This is the setup I currently have on my car and will be doing the same when I get my Fit.

Cheers.

Well, that is the only difficult part. We may have to wait for a bit before someone has a kit. I have not looked around yet, but will be checking with several hitch companies including UHAUL. Honda has a hitch for the Fit in other countries, so we know it can be done.

Cheers

The problem with the hitch in the other countries, is that they either offer a fixed ball mount, or a sleeve/ball mount, which won't work with a bike rack. You need either a 1-1/4" or 2" square receiver hitch, to mount a bike rack.

I'm looking to do the same thing, and am hoping Hidden Hitch comes out with one relatively soon.

My biggest fear is that since Honda does not support towing in the US and Canada, that by simply having a hitch on the car, I'll have to deal with warranty issues, even though I have absolutely no intention of actually towing with it.

Guys, relax...

The FIT is a Honda, and Hondas are popular... it will be a matter of months before Thule makes a roof rack fitment kit for the FIT.

Somewhere I saw an Ozzie Honda site that had a custom-fit roof rack for the Jazz/Fit. I ride a recumbent that's fully 2 meters long. If I fold down everything, including the passenger seat, the bike will squeeze into my Fit Sport on the diagonal. I really do need to get it up on the roof...

Thule has a fitment page where you can put a rack together and they list out all the part numbers you will need. I did this for my GE. I have a full rack and two upright locking wheel clamps for my DH MTB. And for alil extra a visor.

I have a 1 1/4 " trailer hitch and use a Swagman platform rack.
