An additional 9" improved things...

Toyota Matrix antenna mast ($10 from eBay), screwed right in to replace the Fit's roof mast, -a 2 minute mod!

Matrix mast = 16". Fit's = 7".
Reception, especially for fringe-area stations, = improved!!

Geez, if 16" improves reception, now I gotta keep my eyes open for a 20" or a 24" mast!

I never listen to the radio so no need for an antenna for me so I just have the J's shorty white one, hell I don't even have audio in the car right now, using my iPhone's speaker till I can find a dash kit for mine. My Integra also came without audio but there was an actual mount inside the open dash, the Fit just has the wiring harness and antenna cable but nothing to mount a headunit to.

I should be getting free satellite radio as well, as my stock antenna is just as long.

I dunno if you can make it out, but my antenna is mounted up front close to the windshield.

Nah, not with just a 17" antenna! It's slightly different tho, not only longer but with a wire twisted around the upper mast.

However that RC miniature car thing would be a very cool look for me, -so I'll have to watch for larger antennas!! (And now I think maybe the VW Golf has a 20" one that also fits the Fit?)

Pics? What for? Just take a look at the back roof of a Matrix, or of a Golf..... Sheeesh, this is not a drastic, complete look make-over mod, y'know?
But if I do get a mast that's maybe 24-36", then I'll post a pic. Otherwise not worth the T+E, IMO.

Actually he rides the short bus and does not have a Fit.

I have not had any complaints with 9".

Thanks for the post. Is there any particular year Matrix antenna I should be trying to buy, if I were to do this? I briefly checked eBay Motors and they seem to have them for different years. I wouldn't want to buy the wrong year, since there seems to be no return on many items like that.

Thanks

Out of curiosity, do you have any problems with more multi-path reception issues in areas with multiple strong stations? In other words, would it be useful to use the Fit antenna in the city, and the Toyota antenna in the country?

Seems to me like an antenna is an antenna is an antenna, regardless of year model. The only real bugbear would be thread pitch I guess - you'd want the Matrix item to be a plug-and-play (or is it screw-and-play?) affair, so to speak.

Here's where I got it from...
03 04 05 06 07 08 TOYOTA MATRIX OEM ROOF ANTENNA MAST : eBay Motors (item 260492055157 end time Feb-12-10 21:08:53 PST)

Don't expect miracles; it just gives a clearer signal with less static from fringe stations, thas all. Easily worth it to me for the $10.99 + $5.00 SH... -And so far this 16" Matrix antenna is the largest I've found that's also just a simple plug (screw-in) and play for the Fit.

Well no, I'm not expecting miracles from any antenna... regardless of brand. I was only concerned about thread fitage with my 2010 GE... you're using it on a GD.

Thanks

Huh?? I don't know what you're talking about here? I have a 2010 Base Fit (GE), and also I have no idea whether the mast's threads are different or not from year to year on the car. You'll have to ask more experienced Fit'ers than me about that... ??

so go spend the T+E to buy one yourself, and then YOU send everyone a photo, okay?
And how hard is it to look at the roof of a Matrix? -They've just been recalled, not eliminated!

I was at an auto parts store yesterday, and noticed a similar antenna, with multiple adaptors for metric and SAE threads for $9.95. No need to go to eBay.
