That crazy blind spot...

A Pillar Blind Spot
I've been driving for many many years without ever a single accident or ticket, and I drive in one of the most horribly dangerous cities in the United States, Las Vegas. I've had the Fit for five months. I scared the heck out of me tonight, nearly crashing into a hard road divider going from a left turn lane into a left lane, 90 degree turn. That darn A pillar blocks my view to the road divider no matter how much I adjust my seating position. I simply cannot see it until I'm nearly next to it. I got lucky by not hitting the pole, only hit the curb. No visual damage (so far). Will check it better tomorrow in the daylight. I am so shaken up I may go out of my way from now on, using the right side of the left turn lane when there is a choice for that. It will make me fight my way back over to the left lane, but I think there is no choice here for me.

yah, completely agree about the damn a-pillar on the driver side. at the right angle,
that thing hid a frikken full sized garbage truck while i was driving down my
complex.
scared the shit out of me.

just setup your mirrors wide. most folks have it set at an angle where they see a portion of their car (rear quarter panel). dont do that. your driver ed teacher taught you wrong. just point the lens outside more. there is no blind spot in the mirrors if you set it up correctly.

Yeah the A pillar situation is terrible. I've almost hit pedestrians in parking lots that were walking the same speed towards me as I was driving (SLOW). I always lean forward in parking lots now or more towards the side window.
I used to lean towards and look out the side window when i'm making left hand turns for the same reason Erosoberon experienced. I've trained myself to be able to place the car where I want it by just visually referencing before I actually take the turn, but it took a while to get used to it.
