Big question....

Okay so I have been reading on here for about a week and Now I am wondering one thing....What is the single most used item or whatever to get the best gas mileage from you Fit? I have only had mine for 2 weeks and I already get better gas mileage than my Jeep Liberty. But now I am looking to see what works for everyone. So everyone chime in!

No such item exists. Be especially skeptical of those who tell you otherwise.

Are you mostly city driving or highway driving?

My driving is mostly highway with just a few miles with stops. I have been averaging around 39 MPG.

Ya most of driving is highway and I've done some aero mods that help increase my mpg. I average 43 mpg with removal of rear wing, grill block, antenna delete, & max tire pressure. Check out Fuel Economy, Hypermiling, EcoModding News and Forum - EcoModder.com I plan to do some custom moon disc

Oh wow. Interesting. I never thought that the antenna would creat that much drag. The rear wing on the other hand I kind of expected that.

a throttle controller helps with the light foot. When i hop on the fwy I put it in the highest eco setting and it helps save some fuel.

I have found that by using the cruise control as much as possible I get better mileage so far.

my dads friend bought a jeep liberty he has a travel job so he saw how many times he was getting gas, he got only 14 mpg in some spots, he traded it in after a month of fighting with the dealer, the dealer caved and he got a camry with a four cylinder

Inflated tires (too much is unsafe) and a grille block are the obvious starting points for mods. However, how YOU choose to drive will have a much, much bigger +/- impact than any modification you'd do.

I have a UK 1.4CVT Jazz 2012 model with a display of mpg in real time as standard and a green ECO light which lights up when you are driving economically.

On highways in the UK, I can average 57mpg - (Imperial - or c 50mpg (US).. if I drive in the green zone.

Accelerating up hills or when teh car is cold are killers..

In the summer I would expect to do 10-15% better.. and I travel on highways at the legal limit of 70mph..

The real time display teaches you when NOT to accelerate.. and when to ease off...

Yup yup yup... Mod for yourself and not for the crowd unless you're in "show" business...

Also remember that every time you step on the brakes you're essentially giving up energy you paid for. So if there are circumstances when you could've coasted instead...

For example the light at the end of my block is timed with the next one. When it turns green and I turn the corner I just coast* downhill to the next light, because even going 5 mph it's still gonna be red when I get there.

*if there's an impatient driver behind me I accelerate and waste gas...

I always said I would not change my driving habits but I find that the Fit does that for me. Recently my mileage has been improving getting close to 35mpg. So it seems I keep trying to get there either by decreasing speed or coasting more down hill. Dam that mpg reader.
