Well I just bought a Garmin 3590 and getting a good mount on the Fit is
getting problematic...

My initial mount point was just before the a pillar in the little window but
the sun frequently makes it difficult to see.

I bought a TomTom vent mount at Target and took it back immediately when
I found the cradle for the 3590 make the Garmin too thick for the vent mount.

I have the triangular garmin friction mount but it seems to be a shade too big
wherever I place the rascal.

I have a 'CD Mounter' in the mail but I fear that It will have the same problem
as the Tom Tom vent mount.

I also have a cup mount on order ( but I am afraid it might be to large
for the smaller cups holders on the Fit.

I have two cars so having an extra mount or two is not a big deal.

I did get the OBD2 gadget that can be used to display several engines states on
the Garmin. It worked straight out of the box. The processing part tucks nicely
under the dash.

As I previously posted, try the Tom Tom Beanbag GPS holder. It fits perfectly in the little valley between the center vents in the dash and the hump for the instruments. It is advertized as fitting ALL GPS units, and is actually slightly too large for my Tom Tom "XL" GPS. The Bean Bag has a tee shape to let it fit like a saddle in the dash-top valley, and it does not slip. The bean bag rests exactly where the GPS is suction mounted in post #20. The other advantage is, you don't have to un-stick the GPS suction mount to remove the whole thing from the dash- just pick up the bean bag mount with the GPS on it, and hide it under the back of the driver's seat when you leave the car in a lot. Nothing is left to tell a thief that there is a GPS unit in the car.

So... how spirited is your driving?

I've tried out the bean bag mount in my sister's Highlander... and even borrowed it for another car. Though I don't remember which of my past cars it was, I do remember noting that it had a similar hump/valley for the bean bag and figured it wouldn't move.

It went clear across the dash, into the front pillar and finally onto the floor on my very first turn.

That when I realized, it will never work for me... unless someone else is driving (maybe).

The only reason it didn't move in the Highlander... was because my driving is completely different when I have my niece(s)/nephew(s) in the car.

Just a warning to anyone that drives "spiritedly," in any sense of the word.

I just mounted mine (a Garmin Nuvi 3790LMT) between the radio curve/hump and the instrument curve/hump. Using a sticky disk and the suction cup mount. I mounted it very much like DrewE mounted his in his photo, however, I think my sticky disk fits up a little closer to the front.

This is a great position, as it's within the field of view, doesn't block much of anything, is not too hard to look down at a bit if needed, and easy to reach with one's arm to touch and interact with it. as an independent driver while driving if need be.

My driving as as spirited as anyone's (except for AutoX addicts). Just ask anyone who attended the early Bay Area Fit meets. I have to drive through mountains to get anywhere at all after leaving my driveway.

Also, there are a variety of bean bag mount designs- Tom Tom has at least two. For others who are interested in this kind of mount, don't be turned off by one member's disappointing results. Some people have difficulty in adapting to changing circumstances.

Ok,

Here is the mount I am going to try for a while:

It is the Ram Can with the Ram 3590 mount. The Garmin 3590 cradle
snaps into the mount.

looks good to me.

you can get something like this and hardwire to your fuse box for a cleaner look. just run the cord inside the door seal.

on my other car i just broke the dc adapter and took the pcb out and hardwired it. at the end just sealed the pcb with a large heat shrink tube.

*Very* happy with my Kenwood Excelon 6990HD in-dash unit. It's now officially installed using the trim kit supplied with it from Crutchfield. USB/iPod cable was routed through a small hole drilled (with a Dremel) in the inboard side of the upper glove box. No more power cords draped all over the dashboard.

Why do GPS units have those gigantic power cords anyway?? Wouldn't a little cell phone sized cord cover it?

My Garmin nuvi 760 came with traffic receiver... which was housed at the end of the power plug. So that's at least one, if not two, extra wires...then it needs to be shielded.

We used this for our Garmin 1490LMT 5" GPS. Never has slid around on us.

I used to put it up between the A and B pillar but then got scared when my window was down, now I just suction it dead-center on my windshield
