Fixing rear bumper damage

My 2008 Honda Fit got rear ended today at a red light. The other car wasn't going very fast and the damage looked minor enough that I probably won't hassle getting the bumper completely fixed, so we just settled on cash.

It looks like a metal 'nail' behind the bumper was punctured through. What exactly is that? I'm wondering if there's a cheap DIY filler or tape or anything that I can use to at least cover up and smooth out that area.

May be a job for a body shop? You can sand it down and fill with Bondo but might be hard to match the red as you likely have some fading. Spray cans of paint are available at Crappy Tire.

Heck a wide strip of reflective tape would work too or just ignore it.

Where are you at in Canada?

My 2008 fit sport also got in a wreck and the insurance gave me a brand new rear bumper, I still have the old one but its not red, the only damage to it is the paint got chipped and one of the holes where you bolt it on got ripped apart thanks to the fire department.
