Warming up my FIT

It's winter and COLD! Is there a way to leave the car running and Lock the doors, so I can go inside where it is warm while the car warms up? So far I have not been able to do this. Every time I lock the door and leave the car the doors automatically unlock. Any tips?

Well, you could presumably crawl across and leave through one of the other doors. Do, of course, make certain you have another key available to be able to get back into the car once you're out—which is the logic behind preventing the driver's door from locking when exiting with the keys in the ignition.

I just start up and drive away, and shiver for the first minute or three. The engine warms up a lot faster when driving (under a moderate load) than just sitting and idling, and that's generally better for it...but the cold interior is no fun.

Try manually locking the door with a key. I can do this with my older Xterra.

There is no key... just the push button lock/unlock device.

Your smart remote doesn't have the built in key, as explained in the owners manual page 91?

The smart remote does have a key for the driver side door. I don't know that this would let you lock it, though. The key is to get you into the car in case the keyless entry isn't working. Although, I still haven't figured out what can be done if the battery in the fob is dead. Maybe it needs a little USB charger.

Yes, there is the built in key in the remote fob. BUT there's no key hole in the car for it to fit... and the manual isn't very clear on how to use it.

We thought our Accord was broken when my wife got out, threw her purse in the trunk, and shut the lid. The car started beeping and the trunk unlatched. We couldn't figure it out until we realized that one of our key fobs was in her purse. Now if only the car could make me a better driver.

Cheers.
