The new Fits

Although I don't really care for the looks of the new Fits, I've been toying with the idea of giving my son my '09 Sport automatic (41,000 miles) and buying myself a new one.

Do the new Fits come with either a CVT or stick? Do they no longer make a non CVT automatic?

You can either get a CVT or 6 speed manual for the GK. CVTs are primarily coming from Japan, M/Ts from Mexico the last that I heard/searched.

Traditional automatic like the GD and GE is no longer an option. What kind of annoys me is that in other markets they are getting a dual clutch gearbox for the hybrid model... I like the idea that compared to CVT. >.>

Although I periodically suffer from Gout, I still prefer a standard, but the automatic makes most sense for me as I need to be able to drive when having a flair up.

I've only driven one CVT (neighbor's Versa) and found it to be the most boring car ever.

I have a LX with CTV (2015) and it's a great commuting car: easy to park, good gas millage, reasonably well equipped, very impressive turning circle. I use it up north and can report it drive well on snow/ice and cold weather (equipped with winter tire mind you).

I always had a standard so still not sold on the CVT/automatic, but it's convenient in traffic at least...

I hear that.

The CVT on the 3rd gen is VERY smooth but not nearly as engaging/fun to drive as our old A/Ts because of it (to me, from a driving enthusiast point of view). Civil driving around town and highway, it's NICE for a highway cruiser or daily driver. Very quite though shorter "geared" than our older Fits. You don't have the transmission "hunting for the right gear" or "open/close the torque converter" at the slightest change in drive train load.

If you're near a dealer or know of someone local and willing to let you drive their CVT GK5, give it a spin. The CVT's seamless efficiency is great but also add on the fact that you have a wider range of seat and steering column adjustment to tailor the car so you're much more comfortable... it may help ease any issues you have with your Gout.

A test drive is always worth a try.

Try turmeric capsules or sour cherry juice concentrate for your gout. I haven't had a flair up in four years. I don't want to give up the fun of the manual transmission.

I didn't like the Versa's CVT when I had it as a rental.

I hated the GK CVT.

Though I'm not a fan of any auto trans, I've never found a CVT I deem even acceptable.

I can say I'm happy with my '15 EX MT, I've driven it cross country already. It's great on gas and easy to drive. Add lowering springs and upgraded sway bars and it makes it even better to drive. 30k miles and still climbing as I daily drive it. I've been tempted to trade it in though for another Evo or a Focus RS. But don't want to lose the MPG that this thing gives.

I have a 2016 LX with cvt and am getting over 40 mpg mostly interstate driving. The new cvts are much more responsive and control the Rpms better than the older ones, they are very civil I really cannot understand why anyone would not like the LX with cvt.just my 2 cents

So with a CVT you cannot hold it in a lower gear correct? I like to leave my 09 Auto in third to get some spirited response when the mood strikes me or I am on that certain piece of road that begs some V-TEC.

If that is the case I will be driving my 09 for a few more years.

Sure you can just drop the shifter into sport mode. Lower gear more acceleration.
