Somebody gives me a cold shoulder during my research and it is unlikely I will come back. I could understand if they were so busy they just didn't have time to come talk to you about it, but when there are 3 or 4 salespersons standing around chatting and they make eye contact and then turn back to keep chatting it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.
And this is exactly what happened to my dad and I. We know what we like and we do our research, but nothing beats a test drive and being able to physically sit in the car before making a decision. Those stupid sales guys just sat there at a table chatting away ignoring us which really gets on my nerves. I always thought of sales as very cut throat, but it seems like these guys just don't want to be wasting their time unless they know you are going to buy that instant. This happened to my friends family who took their money elsewhere and instead of buying the BMW, bought a Volvo because of the service. They did eventually get a X5, but I think it was at the other dealer because the closer one is full of stuck up morons. I think everyone has an equal opportunity and you can't just judge people as they walk in. That's how you lose clients. I found that out while working for a dealership. The real breadwinners never evaluated the person by their looks and whether or not they will buy, they treated everyone equal and gave everyone a chance.

Don't give up on BMW...just find a better dealer. I always look like a bum, but was treated nice at my local dealer. One of my close friends looks like he can't afford a 1980 Fiesta. His local Mercedes dealer treated him like gold anyway. He left with an SL55.

Every BMW dealership should have atleast 1. The NA official release was the 14th cause they were waiting on all the ships to make port with enough stock for all dealers to get atleast one even though most areas have a huge waiting list already. They should have a tester but then again with the way the other dealers are working up there who knows. haha. Good luck none the less. They are hot cars. I have been thinking about upgrading myself

Saturn Sky Redline; might as well give it a whirl. 260hp and for some reason it has better gas miliage than the non-redline version.

I just looked at that...$38k!!! Mannn I dunno, there's just something about buying a GM car that doesn't give me that warm fuzzy feeling. I was hoping the 1 would be available for show this week. Stupid Mazda 0% ends on March 31st

Yeah but Mazda has always been developed separately which is a good thing. Ford only recently started using Mazda's tech AFAIK.

LOL I talked to YeeFit about that, sounds like it has more power than it can handle haha...that and there is no convertible option. The reviews I've read about the Sky are that it is better than the Solstice, but lags behind the MX-5. So I guess its back down to 1 Series and MX-5. The reviews of the 1 Series so far have been excellent, but there is nothing like getting into the drivers seat and taking it for a spin. The MX-5 was a lot of fun! The Eos I looked at and it's too expensive for what it is IMO.

If I had to pick I would totally go with the 1 series, even with the added cost over the Mazda

miata - girls car
soltice - no trunk, but beautiful...no resale...cheap plastics
sky-same as above but has nice girl's name for a car
bmw 1 - someone ran into the back of an m3, and there it is a, 1 series..seriously, did you not see the m3 2 cars down? sorry man, the 1 looks like shit compared to the 3. it really does look like a poor mans bmw next to any other model...you won't get any respect from any other bmw owner, except maybe from another 1 series owner..
s2000-still a great car..it has "guy's car" stamped all over it...full load $40 all in including taxes...sure last year for the this model run, but still kicks all others for looks/fit/finish and reliability not to mention resale! a few minor mods and you have a keeper for life! it is also not a pretentious car........

Illusive - Inside Line just published their full test on the 135i. This may help you with your decision.

Dad picked up a MX-5. Everyone can label it a girls car or whatever, but I really like the new ones. They are very fun to drive and my dad wanted his convertible, so it was perfect for us. The 1 series convertible wasn't worth it, it's over $40,000 for the 128i and that's without options and PDI and all that jazz. They wouldn't even pay any attention to us when we wanted to go for a test drive at the dealership. We walked out with a GS that includes the 6spd, Bilstein sport suspension, and LSD for $34k everything included at 0% financing over 5 years.

I rented an MX-5 for something to do one day, brought it home and my wife asked if she could take it for a drive. She returned four hours later, so much for my nice summer cruise. By time I got use of the car, the kms were near over for the "free" portion. It is a driver's car, a real blast if you can get the keys for it...good luck...sweet ride.

Super bump!

Thought I might revive this thread for a bit. Still planning on picking up a car next spring, but now I am trying to decide if I want the 135i, an Audi S5 or just go all out on an M3 instead

If it were my cash, the Audi by a slim margin. Now a quarter margin, saw an S5 last night, very sharp. The M3 is a car driven by aggressive line bud-in artists. No one likes BMW guys, never see a wave in or break being cut BMW-Guy's way. You will sit and wait by the on-ramp. M3 insurance must be higher as well. Audi, and yes the front lamps are a factor.
