lol thanks for the clarification...yeah Saturday is a day put aside for the g/f...she finally got a day off over the weekend, so I'm a no show for this one...that and my car looks hilarious right now without the lip kit on! I have these 5 white pegs sticking out both sides of my car where the skirts used to be...looks funny
ARRRGGG!!!
So now the rubbing on the front of my car has become a retarded problem!! Went to have the fender rolled, but now after looking much closer the guys didn't think they could do it nicely
I am so not happy.
I am totally fed up with this problem, going to get new set of smaller rubber. Anybody want to buy my Z-rated 205/40/17's w/ like 2500km on them for cheap?

that sucksto hear about your rubbing issues. what size would you drop down to stop some of the rubbing? Ive seen sometimes that changing out the brand gives a slighty lower profile and a little more room for you. I'd PM DaveVM to see what size and brand he's got going on (I can't remember off hand) he's got very minimal rub and thats with a good amount of weight in the vehicle too.

I usually have the front loaded up (me + gf), and I only rub on big bumps or really hard cornering in the front. YeeFit advised me to remove the metal screw that holds the inner fender well in place. Apparently that is where most of the rubbing occurs when you are so very close to clearing. Maybe try that before buying new rubber...
Oh I forgot about the fender screw! I still have to take mine out.
So what is everyone doing for the SCC show now? i'm coming down right after work (4:30ish) so if you wanna meet up throw me your cell and we can hook up for a little shoot if we wanted as well.

EDIT: Speaking of which
I have the names of three tires that come in this size... anybody know where I can score 4 for 600$ (or less) installed? I know the tire rack has two of them for very reasonable prices... but I am afraid to order out of the states!!Continential (ContiSportContact 2),
Hankook (Ventus S1 EVO K107),
Pirelli (PZero Nero).

Even with just me in the car I have been hitting bumps that are rubbing bad. The guy at the shop said I better take it easy or he thinks I am going to f@ck up my fender.
The Nexen/Lexani tend to be a rather tall tire. If you could get into a falken they have less side wall on them so it might help with your rubbing.
And i forgot that Dave is running 16" wheels so the tire sizing will be off compared to yours.

That is the thing that bothers me, these tires should be within a certain tolerance of the spec if they are sold in North America. Theoretically they SHOULD have an over all diameter of 23.46". I think I am going to measure these suckers today to see just how close that is.
DaveVM's tires (205/40R16) should have an overall diameter of 22.46" (so like 1/2" shorter off the top than mine). A 195/40R17 should technically have a 23.14" dia, but also be about 3/16" less wide at the outer edge. I figure with both of those factors combined it will give me a 1/4" difference to the edge of the fender.
EDIT: haha, because I am such a CAD monkey I drew up a profile comparison of the rubber
Double Edit: Reposted (Screwed up a calc *in bold on original message too*)... lol and forgot to change the green line to 16x7 wheel!

I see, I didn't consider the sidewall thickness. All I have been accouting for was the final tread width and diameter.
Yeah if you can, post up some comparison pics between brands that would be really helpful!

so Sugarphreak, i am running 195/50/16..very very minor rubbing and that screw needs to go..i have a larger one in that spot for the car bra....i did have a set of 205/40/16 i tried ( loaned from my Son's civic) and they were great, never any rubbing, however since the springs firmed up and the 195/50/16 r causes minimal issues i decided to stay with them...i wanted the height so as to be as close as possible to the spec tire size. i see in your pictures u have minimal clearance....width has always been the issue for me from day one, especially when the offset of the wheel is less than OEM...i aggree with u on 195's... good luck
haha, thus further proving my current tires are not to proper spec size
I am sure these things are like 15mm wider & 20mm taller than they should be!
Edit: lol, my bad again (I must be working too hard today)... I showed a 205/50R16 instead of a 195/50R16! But I am lazy so I am not going to redraw it
I was just thinking after I change the tires I should use a block of skateboard wax all over the inner fender to make a thick slippery durable coat so any future minor rubbage won't cause any long term damage.

LOL you guys over there are too technical and use too much CAD hahaha!
On another note, I'm taking on my side skirts myself after I got quotes of $600-$1000 just to work on and paint the skirts!!!! So I decided to mock things up with my dad and then paint it myself after xdimsumx told me where I can colour matched spray paint from. Picked up all my supplies today, anyone with any bodyshop experience want to give me a few tips? I'm going to start tomorrow. I've almost finished modding one to fit, but I wanna make sure everything fits the way I want it to before I spray it

lol, sounds like a lot of work Illusive. Let me know how you make out
Maybe I will follow your footsteps for my skirts
SO! My tires are infact not even close to spec!!
I measured by hand the width & dia of my tires.
The overall Dia is 23.6" (spec size is 23.46")
And the big one... The width is 218mm.... NOT 205mm
Just to make sure I wasn't going crazy I also measured up my snow tires (195/55R15) using the same method... guess what...
23.25" dia (compared to spec size of 23.44")
195mm accross, exactly matching the given spec size
Anyway, obviously there is a serious problem with the spec width of this tire. This is total bull IMO so I am going to look into finding out if this tire even meets proper Canadian tolerance standards.
EDIT: Well after reading through the Canadian Motor Vehical Safety Act.... looks like 7% is the allowable tolerance... meaning unless my tire is wider than 219mm it looks like this is actually legal. Honestly considering all the grief, time and extra cost it has caused me, that is f-ing bullsh!t, but whatever. I hate the government
