Yaris vs. Fit
By the way...I found this same thread over on Yarisworld...and they were TRASHIN the Fit. They put up comparison pics of a tricked out Yaris and a stock Fit sport and were all "ya, see...the yaris is MUCH hotter!". lol I wanted to post some pics of Silverish's Fit and let them know that if they're gonna throw up a modded Yaris, the least they can do is show a modded Fit as comparison.
i realize this is a fit forum, so people are going to be very pro fit.
personally, i like both of these cars and think they are clearly the leaders of this class.
here in canada, the yaris is offered as a 5-dr which makes the comparison a little easier.
the automotive press has not been entirely fair with the yaris, imo, especially in the states. i've read a lot of articles, which seem to be intended to take toyota down a notch rather than actually properly critique the car.
the toyota echo was found to be cheapest car to own and operate in canada for 4 years in a row, cheap to buy, cheap to fill, cheap to maintain. you can expect the same with the yaris but with improvements.
a car that i had a chance to drive recently was the new 2-dr hyundai accent hatch and i was really impressed by the improvements made to that car, plus the styling doesn't make you want to barf anymore.
there isn't as much footroom as the yaris and fit in the back seat, but it probably has the largest trunk space of any of these cars with the back seats up.
if i were in the market for a car, it might be a 3-way contest for me.

I'm also in the Lake/Cook county area. just curious, have your ordered your fit, if so from where? and did you have a good experience with them so far?

Actually (as I've stated in the Yaris forum), if they had offered the 5 door in the states, it would have been a 2 car race for me. I might have actually gone with the Yaris. The 5 door is pretty freakin hot, but the 3 door just looks way too short for my liking. Not like the Fit is HUGE or anything...but still...the 4 doors just add to the profile.
with the canning of the xa, they yaris 5-dr will probably be brought in to fill this niche.
I test drove the Yaris.
I wanted side curtain air bags (optional) but the salesperson told me he has never seen any Yaris arrive from the factory with that option... ever.
They suggested a camry if I wanted side curtain air bags.
The storage capability of the Fit is far superior to any small car similar in size. Plus I think the Fit is much more fun to drive.

Ok, I checked out and test drove the Yaris hatchback only 2 days before I went to the Honda dealer and bought my new Fit Sport on the spot.
I simply don't see how anyone can say the Yaris is better, mainly for the interior. The interior of the Yaris pretty much had nothing. A speedometer in the center of the dash and a few climate controls. The seats were awful, unsupportive and the material was cheap. The Fit on the other hand has a very nice interior, one that seems like it's from a much more expensive car. The handling of the Fit was FAR superior than the Yaris. I really don't understand how anyone can disagree with that, unless you like sloppy, loose, all over the road handling like the Yaris.
I realized it seems like I'm trashing the Yaris, I'm really not, just in comparison to the Fit, there really is none. The Yaris is a decent car for the money, but the Fit is ALOT more car for $1000-$2000 more, and the MPG is almost even.

lol, I went to test drive a Yaris. I got in, realized the stupid console was mounted in the center of the dash and got right back out :D I am sure it would make a great car for a driving instructer
Ahh the Honda Fit, console right where it should be

same here man I AM ALL THE WAY WITH YOU...they are hella talking some shit on fits mang...i love both cars, but the fit has something over the yaris...ITS A HONDA
ive been on yarisworld reading through the forums and a lot of words have been said on there side...
you forgot
price: yaris>fit
transmition: yaris>fit (for all the poor bastards that bought an auto fit and found out how poorly honda matched the engine to the tranny considering the transmition isnt offered in any other country as a standard auto of course manual is completely the oposite of the case but the yaris does both well)
emisions: yaris>fit
reliability: probably equal
stock wheels: they are both hideous wich is why i plan on getting new rims asap :D lol imo :D
the yaris isnt a bad car so you could go on forever finding things the fit does better but its always going to be bias.. also plz keep in mind im just saying this for the sake of argument because im obviously a fit lover and not a yarisfreek or id be on yaris world all the time lol they both do things well.. if you want absolute economy i would go with a yaris but if youd like to have a little fun id go with the fit id say they both have strengths and weeknesses

What I like over here is that there seems to be a decent number of level-headed people that can draw a mostly honest comparison with our favorite econobox. :D (I haven't seen any hateful VW vs Honda crap that I saw over at vwvortex...)
Anyways, I think the Yaris' strength is the cheap minimal config, and Fit has best value with Sport package. I didn't know that Yaris had 4-door hatch elsewhere!
yes, the lack of bashing is a good thing here, and I think the last sentence hits the nail on the head.
own both, modded both. bottom line is they both have there flaws and they both have there advantages.
the lowered yaris does look pretty damn sexy, especially the 5dr, and with body stiffening i could image that it would be fun.
i like them both, but when it comes down to it they are both slow.

as a member of yarisworld and fitfreak i read both sides, but i think the cars are very comparable, but if anyones been on youtube lately theres a flic of a fit killing a yaris.;)

Had driven both the Yaris and Fit. I want to chime in to those wondering about the two and are on the fence about a decision.
The Fit is better a car through and through.
The Honda motor, space, shape, seats, brakes, interior materials. It's just so apparant the Fit is better car.
Yaris is cheaper that's about it. You get what you pay for.

Someone tried to steal my 97 honda civic so I took to honda to get her fixed up. While I was there I sat in a Fit, but didn't drive it. Then the rental people came to get me ...and rented me a Yaris. I had it for 3 days. (I also rented a Ford Focus - gag)
I hated the Yaris. It had 20000 km on it and it sound loose and bagged. I agree its a rental but hey my Honda civic from 97 sounded way better and drove better. The interior was basic and the car was awkward. It had blind spots that annoyed me and I kept speeding cause I couldn't see the speedometer to my right. What's with that??? The steering was sloppy too.
So I took back the car when mine was fixed and immediately drove the Fit on the lot. It has that nice interior and the shifter is so tight. The clutch was different that I was used to but I liked it. The steering totally amazed me. All in all I didn't find the Yaris to be a good car for me.
If I'm going to spend money I'm going to spend it well. If I was a penny pincher I'd get a Yaris but I'm a driver and I wanted a car that I would love driving.
And now all I do is play show and tell with my new Fit. :)
