VW Golf Wofsburg
Our Golf is at 6,000 Miles and I plan to ask about our rotors at the 10,000 Service. I suppose that if there's an unresolved problem down the road, I'll replace the rotors and pads and be done with it. We've not noticed anything unusual about our braking.
VW denied to help with the rotors. They see deep grooves as cosmetic.
Loaner was a brand new Atlas. It was extremely poorly constructed and the interior had some of the cheapest/worst materials I've seen in a vehicle since the '80's.
Better to go down to the Tiguan or up to the Touareg.

I find that sad, but not at all surprising they denied you a set of rotors.
My thoughts on the latest SUV offering from VW. The Atlas was designed & made for the American market. They made it cheaply to be able to sell it at a low price. Looks like another fail for VW. I believe the Touareg is now discontinued or will be with the 2018 model year.
I like the Alltrack a lot & may move into one of those next year.

So, ran the VW by a good friend who is a Service Manager (top dog) at a large Ford/Lincoln dealer.
He said that...
A. He's never seen rotors this bad on any Ford that was still under warranty
B. They would immediately replace the rotors and pads and ask the customer to come back to monitor the problem.
Just sayin' they look pretty bad.

They refused even upon questioning to provide the actual measurement.
In the end, I don't really care. I'll put new rotors AND pads on it and chalk it up to another shortcoming by a company that is known to not care about public/environment safety.
Love the way the vehicle drives and performs. Just put another negative hash mark against the vehicle and company that produced it. Every car I've owned has had a few, but this one is getting them much more quickly.

i see...while not pretty, some rotors wear like that with grooves. id just run them until they wear out. i had a stink about it on my old car's brembos but at the end of the day they still braked very well so i didnt care.
if u search MK7 golf grooves youll see all sorts of posts about them including GTI's and R's. if my Golfs did that, id just use them up and get something better next time around.

When I replaced the rotors & pads on my MINI I bought stoptech slotted & cryo treated rotors. They cost a bit more, but they wore great. The best rotors I've ever had on a car I'm sold on them. Since your brakes work well run them until you need pads then replace.
It seems to me most all car dealers do not like knowledgeable customers. My guess is it's because we are harder to lie to.

yah, agree completely. its not that we're difficult, the shittt dat comes out of their mouths sometimes are borderline insane comedy.
Absolutely, and it's infuriating. Some months ago at the Honda dealer a woman inquired about her new car's engine oil consumption. The Service Advisor assured her that it was "just air bubbles working their way out of the system". I wasn't sure if the Advisor was dishonest or just plain stupid.
I have asked a couple of service advisers if they had gone to school to be taught how to lie to a customer with a straight face. I also asked if they were taught how not to hear what a customer hears.
I treat them with respect as I do all people. If I don't get respect I ask them why. When I'm lied to I call them on it in a respectful manner, but I don't give them a pass. I remind them if they want a good survey score they should earn it.
At VW I have a good re pore with one of the SA's there. He's an honest straight shooter, a car-guy, knowledgeable & very helpful. Several of the others there are definitely not & I steer clear of them.
That guy at the Honda dealer was stupid for sure RS-1. Just his way of blowing her off. A shameful jerk for sure. Many men in the car industry talk down to women, this may have been part of that.

yah my wife took the fit for service one time long time ago taking a note with her listing what needed to be done and the SA dismissed the note and started going off on his own telling her she needed all sorts of other services done.. so my wife called me and handed the SA her phone. i just told him to stop with the BS and just do wat is on the note.
he agreed immediately with no fuss. i waz like wtf mang..

No real updates. Found out that the wife called VW corporate to complain about the service she received. They couldn't help, but recommended that she take the car to another dealership and asked that she report back to corporate what the other dealer finds if she does.
I'm not sure, but I think they were kind of intimating that there have been issues with our dealer. No sure though.
As I said, I'm not pursuing it. She can if she wants. I'll just replace the rotors and pads. She's more of a fighter than I am.
On brighter Golf related news...
We are going to make a 9 hour drive to visit relatives next week and I've decided to take the Golf. Figure it has just enough room for the three of us with luggage and will be a good test for the car. I'm actually looking forward to the drive. I never looked forward to doing trips in the Fit. We did a few, but they were quite brutal. Nearly deaf by the time we got there each time from road noise.
Past multiple trips were in the Lincoln. It truly couldn't be any better at road trips, but I want to see how the Golf does. I'm expecting it to be quite pleasurable. As other owners know, it's more solid than it's size would lead you to believe.
If the Golf ends up being as good as I think it is, we may use it again over Christmas for a longer drive we're making.
The other part of this test is I've got an itch for something sportier than the Lincoln. I love it's performance, but miss driving a rear drive manual car. If the Golf is able to perform our family road trips in comfort, I may trade the Lincoln in.

wat RWD MT car would you get in this case? ND?

If you think about it, I'm like the most hated car person. My two favorite cars are Honda's and Mustangs.
I've always wanted a Miata, but it would become quite a project for me. They are under powered for my taste. I appreciate them as drivers cars, but I also like tire smoke and brute force from time to time.
sounds good. considering honda and dodge are like polar opposites mustang isnt too bad? haha. :D
some funny guy stangGT tried to pull away from my Golf-R one time, i could've bumped his rear bumper if i wanted to.
yah, even the ND's are kinda slow but since you have the mountain roads close by..not sure.. probably very lacking going up hill but maybe down hill could be real fun? i was looking at one early on too, but waaay too slow for my roads here.

i will probably never buy another rwd car again, but if i did, this would be my choice, in MT of course.
