Automotive News pictured the 2009 and improved specs.
Its rounder and more bulgy for more interior room to compete with the Versa. No mention of weight or mpg.
Engine is 118 hp vtec and wheelbase is 2" longer to yield more rear knee room also to compete with the Versa. No mention of doing anything for Toyotaphiles; guess they woyldn't know the difference anyway.

I have read several places that the 2009 fit weighs roughly 20 lbs more, due to the use of special steel and metal forming tech. for strength.
and no spare, but a tire repair kit Ive heard like only 20-22 lbs more also.
I like it, I'll prolly get one. Sure wish it had the JDM front end though.

is it me or does the usdm version of the 2009 Honda Fit looks nicer? i saw the JDM 2009 Fit showcase last year and i didnt like how the new exterior looked. I loved the changes to the interior, extra cup holders. lol. They finally added the gas cap lock and added extra space under the rear seats. I heavily debated whether i should get the 2009 or stick with the 07-08 model because i loved how they looked. Now FOSHO im waiting for the 09 to come out. the extra length of the front and rear bumper forms a better looking car. the front of the car now looks mean like the Civic Type-R hatch. Now to see if theres a way to change the interior to look like a type-r too

A lot of people here would say it's just you because of the added length of the front bumper and hood. I've been following the Fit since August of 2005, and personnally, I like the '09 Fit, and am just waiting for it's release this fall to buy one.
Almost 20 years ago I bought a '89 Civic Si new, and loved that car. The '09 Fit has reinvogorated my desire to buy a sporty, fuel-efficent hatchback much like the Civic Si I once had. The 1st gen Fit is a great car, and I almost bought one, but knew that in just a few short years, a redesign would happen, and the 1st gen would be the previous generation without the benefit of the latest technology, and therefore be less desirable.

Well, in a few short years after '09 wouldn't the 2nd gen Fit become the previous generation without benefit of the latest technology and therefore be less desirable?

I almost bought the 2007 Fit but just couldn't get over it's "unique" look, so I bought the Mazda3 GT instead. I fell in love when I first saw the 2009 Fit, that if it pans out, I'll sell my Mazda and buy the much better looking 2009 Fit next spring. Safe Driving Fit Masters

No, it would be more than a few short years. Japanese automotive product cycles typically span four to five years, but in the case of the JDM Fit it was actually six years. So by purchasing the next generation at the beginning of it's life cycle, you enjoy driving the more desirable generation with the latest technology long enough to pay it off (if you bought the car on credit), and be better prepared to buy the next generation with the latest technology when it's introduced.
1. availability of VSC
2. cruise control
3. 16" alloys
4. spoiler & lower body add-ons
5. availability of Nav?
6. ???
If it's like the 2008 the price of that was a deal. The 08 added cruse control, fog lights, better radio and better tires, not on your list for the '09
I have read most of this but it was not clear to me the extra length how that shows up inside relative to the 2008 and older. Does anyone really know in inches relative to the old model the location of the extra length. ie 2" more in the rear leg room or 3" more dash and front foot room length?
I'm glad many of you plan to buy the '09's. I would not, buy a new gen car no matter based on the established trend of them having issues that are resolved in the second year. So I'm targeting 2010, assuming Honda does not screw it up with price or fuel eco performance which is still an unknown.
