I'd hope they can wring one more highway mpg out of it. The 2009 Chevy Cobalt XFE will be rated 36mpg. With a 2.2L engine. 148hp and 152 torque. For real.

I'm shocked, too.

I'm pretty sure they did the same thing that Toyota does with the Corolla, and extended the gearing. The gearing on the Corolla is pretty long.

and clearly the new model has addressed things missing from the old model.

in the grand scheme of things are you really saving yourself any legit hassle by waiting another year to get the new fit?

on the other hand...... the argument that says the new fit will already be a year old by the time it hits north america....... well that's true but all those new fits overseas will have a very short track record. so does it really matter??? i ask that as a legit question, not rhetorical.

i dont have a fit. i plan on getting the 09. but i also know my insurance will double when i do that... from $800 to $1600. so i may drag my heals longer, driving my old beat-up camry (which has yet to fail me).
Honda is the one car company I wouldn't mind buying a first year model or first year redesign from. Add to that the fact that the 2009 Fit, by the time it gets here, will have already been on sale in Japan for a year, and I'm really not too worried about it.

The Odyssey is really the only car they have ever had any significant number of problems with. And even the Odyssey is reliable by most standards.

If I were to wait until the 2010 models are out to buy a new car, I'd probably get that new Honda "low-cost hybrid" that is supposed to be out by around then. Unless, of course, that new "low-cost hybrid" ends up being a hybrid version of the Fit, which would be cool, but I've heard it will have its own unique design - the way the Prius is unique for Toyota.

Wonder if the 09 seats will work in an 07-08. They look more conferable IMHO

Update: Picking it up tomorrow. Something came up today and it worked out better for me tomorrow because I still need to round up my other cars to go back into my warehouse out there.

Will there be hybrid model in the future?
I read about 25 pages of this thread... didn't really find any answer.

Also, the new Nav option on the 09 is really attractive.. I hope it doesnt
cost 10% of car's cost like other Honda models...

Nah i doubt they'll offer a hybrid of the Fit. They speculated this for a while cause the wheel base is almost exactly the same as the Insight but the next hybrid is gonna be the CR-Z.

Look up the CR-Z, its pretty insane but according to the latest rumors Europe is gonna get it first then the US . They're gonna come out w/ a 3rd hybrid too (besides the CR-Z and the Civic Hybrid). And one of those 2 new hybrids is gonna be priced decently less than the Civic Hybrid.

Hybrid model of the Fit? No, it's already been confirmed there will be no Fit Hybrid. The Hybrid is something different altogether, but I think it'll be of similar shape though.

Almost forgot. Update: Today's the day, as long as the weather holds. It's been snowing lightly for about an hour though ugh.

I will definately be getting one considering how long I've researched on many cars. As long as Honda still offers RED and not some Ruby or other shade. That stopped me from getting an Element a few years ago.

Great site! Glad it's here!!!!

What I'm primarily looking for RDS to comment on is this - does Honda keep the same fun, zippy feel on the 5 speed 2009 as on the present model? If yes, then I've made my decision to wait for a 2009. If the report is that the transmission somehow feels different or the drive/shifting experience has been modified, then I will go with the present model. As RDS knows, since I have sent him some private messages, I have been holding out for a report on the 2009, hoping that he reports that the 2009 not only has as the same great feel to the drive, but that it is worth waiting for in terms of its other amenities, too... sky roof, arm rest, dead foot, seat comfort, door-mouldings, etc.

I don't think we're going to get the sky roof in the NA model fit. I wish though.

Has anyone seen some good pictures of the JDM or Euro fit out "in the wild"? I like to see some "real world pics" rather than the staged auto show or official Honda photos.
