I won't drive my car to the low fuel light comes on. Remember the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel, let it get to low and could burn up some fuel pumps.
Over 1700 miles, I'm averaging just over 36 mpg in my Base Manual, mostly over a 17 mile each way commute, 80 percent freeway. I have been driving until the light comes on for the last few fillups, and when I fill up then, it has consistently taken 9.6 gallons. I'm in 5th at 30 mph, freeway mostly 65-80 depending on traffic. Wheels at 40 psi cold.
I just drove the Fit (Sport MT) for a 4000 mile road trip ( I had 2500 miles on it when I started) with 2 1/2 people (4 yr old) and 2 mid sized dogs and our luggage, so figure that was hurting my mileage a little bit. I calculate by filling up completely, setting my miles to 0 (paying close attention to the gallons in case the pump shut off prematurely) and running it to nearly empty, then dividing my miles by the number of gallons used. I do not drive like a grandma and employ almost no gas saving driving techniques. AC was almost always on as were a ton of other small electronic devices.
The rundown:
*At highway speeds of 75-85 mph 31-34mpg
*At highway speeds of 65-75 mph 33-36mpg
*At highway speeds of 55-65 mph 35-40mpg (construction and night time)
*Around town, lots of stop signs, upper 90degree temperatures, 4 1/2 people and some light-moderate traffic, 27-31mpg.
The best tank I ever had so far was a liesurely trip through the poconos at speeds of 45-65 mph, and I got a whopping, and unbelieveable 43.3mpg, and 2 other similar experiences in the low 40-41 range.
Overall, considering how much cargo I had, and how great this thing rides and how comfortable it is on a long trip, I haven't got a single complaint, other than needing to buy a new set of rims with some AutoX tires on it because my MINI might be seeing some garage days while I'm at the track this summer.
Thanks so much for this. I must say those number are pretty good considering your load and the A/C being on so much. I have had my fit for about a month now and have no complaints whatsoever. I am very happy I bought the sport model because I need cruise control. I also like the mp3 capability of the stereo. I burned about 120 songs onto one CD and have enjoyed much music with my new wheels. My wife loves it too... its really her car more than mine... but I borrow it from time to time.
thanks again for the excellent breakdown. One of the big reasons I bought the fit is for gas mileage. The other reason was... cargo space and nothing else could compete in the price range. Plus... its a Honda!
After over 700 miles and two tanks of gas my overall average is 39.4 mpg. This is for a Sport MT with tires at 36 psi. Combo of city and highway driving with AC on 90% of time. I'm pleased.
After 3000 miles I have not gotten under 38 mpg on any tank. low of 38 mpg (first tank) and the highest at 41.8 mpg (all Highway at 65 mph no a/c, 60 deg F., windows up, winds lite). Almost all of my driving is 80% hy, 20% city.

I now have over 4,000 miles on my fit with an average of 34.56 mpg. My high is 37.1 and low is 31.2 mpg. I drive a mix of city and highway with the a/c on about 60% of the time in the metro Detroit area. My mileage is best at a steady 55 to 65 mph cruise, it drops noticably over 75 mph and does better with the a/c on versus windows down on the highway. In fact my lowest mileage was due to a combo of speed and having the windows down. I use whatever regular (89) unleaded gas is the lowest price, no brand in particular.

The mpg seems to be very speed (rpm) dependent. The high mpg run was in hilly country (Appalachian hilly, not Rockies hilly, plenty of power btw), with lower speeds, <60mph. The average mpg's are at highway speeds, 70ish.
On my first tank I drove 480kms, used 33L = 6.875 L/100kms or 34.2 mpg (US gallons). I drove 50/50 city/highway, 120km/h on the highway, A/C on 80% of the time. I'm doing better on my second tank. I'll have to check my tire pressure tonight.

In my first 1800 miles (in 4 weeks) I've gotten 35 mpg in my normal base Fit MT driving-- quick starts, but never crusing more than 8 mph over the speed limit, A/C on half the time, one passenger a third of the time; it's 5 mpg better than my Miata was (w/o A/C) so I'm happy.
i recently had gone on a 380 miles trip, but it took one and a half tanks to get to my destination, it only equaled to about 28 to 30 mpg... wtf?
i drove a little fast tho, about 80 mph consistently.

My weekend toy!
Just filled up. Used BP Amoco regular 87 octane. 320.7 miles, 9.585 gallons, equals 33.45 mpg. Driving 60 percent highway, 40 percent city. Cruising average 70-80 on highway with A/C. So this car so far is living up to expectations. I'm waiting for an all "highway" ride. I think I could do 40mpg or better. (Black Fit Sport MT).
You sound dissapointed with your mileage. What did you expect when you purchased the car? Your within EPA. When you say 37 is possible if you coast, your wrong. I drove from Cleveland to Columbus (124 miles each way) doing 80-85 mph, and got almost 39 mpg. (Fit sport MT)
Just got back from a 1000 mile trip and am a little dissapointed in the milage. 100% freeway driving we got 32 mpg, mised driving we averaged about 31-32, and one tank at 26mpg???? A/c on the whole time and the freeway miles were average probably 85+mph so I think that had something to do with it. Next tank will be commuting mixed freeway and intown driving conservativly hopefully its better in the future. I can live with 32mpg but would like more for 100% freeway. Car is a sport 5sp.

I have a Sport MT and over 1k miles on it already. I hope it's not the A/C because that is required pretty much 100% of the time down in TX in the summer.
