Input shaft bearing question

Hi,

I need some expert advice on a potential buy.

It's a 2003 Jazz that has done 34k miles and in very good condition, basically no rust. I'm slightly concerned about the input shaft bearing, it makes a slight whirring sound when in neutral and foot is off the clutch, the sound then disappears when the clutch is pressed.

I've attached a video where I'm starting with the clutch pressed, then take the foot off and the noise starts.

If it is in fact the input shaft bearing, should I avoid the car all together, or is it still worth buying it?

Thankful for any advice!

I just purchased a 2007 with the same issue or a throwout bearing. Noise changes when on or off the clutch which leads me to believe it is throwout bearing. Luckily it's super cheap to get an OEM clutch/flywheel kit. At that point you're taking off the trans and can better evaluate anyways.

Seems like the input shaft, though no guarantee based on a video over the internet of course

Does it get quieter when the car is warmed up? Mine sounded like this when cold, and wasn't very noticable once warmed up: https://i.imgur.com/C40o9Vp.mp4

Whether or not it's worth is up to you and depends on how much the car costs, how much it would cost you to fix it, etc. You could drive it as-is for a while, but it's a serious issue that will destroy the transmission eventually. The bearings themselves are like 20 bucks, but requires pulling the transmission like for a clutch job, and opening it up.It's possible to DIY but it's a pretty big job for an amateur at home: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/1st-...tin-rides.html
