I installed the LED keyring, I had some problems with the small gauge factory wires. It never really worked properly since I installed it, then yesterday it went out completely. The red light is very, very dim, the blue not as dim.
I rechecked all the wires and connections and in doing so the brown wire with the silver spots got cut. I stripped a little off each end and reconnected the brown wire with the blue from the keyring, and the lights are still very dim.
Is there anyway I can check if the unit is defective by plugging to a different wire?
Does anyone think I might have messed up the factory wires too much?
Should I disconnect the battery and try to "reset" it?
I was looking at the battery and I'm not sure if I have to disconnect the whole positive terminal or what.
Can anyone help? Dave? Nick?
thanks in advance, I'm going crazy here.....

did you use the same red connectors i used?
if not i suggest you do.
Or do what 09 Fit said. solder. but i know no one want to cut there
wires up. so the red connectors is the best way to go with no cutting.
these still are a tad to big but they work the best. if you get blue they
are just to big.
i just only hope you did cause it to heat up so much on a bad connection
that you permanently messed it up.

I bought the blue connectors first, but they were a little loose. I changed them to the red connectors, after I saw them being dim yesterday. As I was changing them the brown wire with the silver spots cut in half on its own.
Today I completely disconnected everything, redid all the connections (made sure there was contact inside the terminals, crimped, and heat shrinked tubing... i did not solder anything but I triple checked all the connections). Power should be definitely good b/c then I guess I wouldn't get any power. Ignition wire is good b/c when I put the key in the light shuts off. The ground should be good as well I attached it to the same screw in the pic.
I'm thinking as 09 Fit mentioned I might have damaged the brown wire internally somehow, it did pull a little out from the door side. Maybe all the wiggling might have caused it to fray internally?
But then if the brown wire is messed up somewhere the red alarm light on the dash would not light either right?
I gotta see if I can test the LED keyring using a 9v battery before I start rewiring the brown wire. Anyone know the procedure for testing the keyring?
Thanks again, and please keep the suggestions coming....

update
I completely removed the keyring from the car.
I rechecked all the connections, and tried to hook it up to a 9v battery. The unit lights up fully red, but when I place the blue "door signal?' wire on the negative terminal it does the same thing as it did in the car which was flash very dimly...
I also tried a dewalt 18v battery and it seems to work properly with the 18volts.
I tried the connections again on the car, and I can not duplicate the bright red as I did on the 9v battery, when I hook it to the brown wire it does the same flickering.
What could explain this?
Any suggestions for trouble shooting welcomed.
Thanks again all...

I forgot I had a 110 to 12vdc converter in the basement, I plugged it in, and I am getting the same results as I was with the 9volt (very dim lights, not flashing properly).
I also went to my mechanic to have him check my hook up points, and the car, all is running normal at or around 12 volts. So my car apparently has sufficient power.
I think the LED Keyring might be defective since it only works at 18volts.

I'm hoping Dave might have an answer....

Anyone get a response to their PM's they sent Dave. I've PM'ed him 3 times in regards to the broken Ignition Light Ring I have that I bought from him but haven't heard back.
