your door.

Ok, so you say its ok to hook the BLUE to the dome light if the light comes on after the ignition shuts off or the doors open, and the doors close the light stays on 60 sec longer....

but as for the ignition... what signal is it looking for exactly?

Red is 12v constant (self help)
Black is ground (self help)
Yellow is switched by ignition
Is the signal from the ignition any specific one? hot, run or acc?
Blue is door lock unlock
Can it be the signal from the button also?

Sorry, but I am just trying to figure it all out! >.<

Well just got done doing the ignition light ring mod. Want to thank Niko for the DIY write up as made it pretty straight forward. Also want to thank Dave for the ignition ring and helping Niko to get the info he needed. Had a couple of questions about the install but Nick was most helpful in answering them for me. I love this site and all the info and help that is provided. The only thing I don't like is all the money your all costing me with these mods.....LMAO

Scott
I believe that's exactly as it should operate. Congrats dude, nice job! I need to quit being lazy and install mine one of these days....

Question

I installed the LED keyring, I had some problems with the small gauge factory wires. It never really worked properly since I installed it, then yesterday it went out completely. The red light is very, very dim, the blue not as dim.

I rechecked all the wires and connections and in doing so the brown wire with the silver spots got cut. I stripped a little off each end and reconnected the brown wire with the blue from the keyring, and the lights are still very dim.

Is there anyway I can check if the unit is defective by plugging to a different wire?
Does anyone think I might have messed up the factory wires too much?

Should I disconnect the battery and try to "reset" it?
I was looking at the battery and I'm not sure if I have to disconnect the whole positive terminal or what.

Can anyone help? Dave? Nick?

thanks in advance, I'm going crazy here.....

If you installed the unit properly the fuse should have protected your car and the unit.

It sounds like low voltage is the culprit. I would check the wires to be sure that one has not been pinched in the installation. Look for sharp bends or flat spots in the wire. Pulling hard on small wires can also break the copper inside the insulation resulting in high resistance or no power.

Triple check that all of your crimp joints are good and tight. You may have a crimp joint that looks and feels good but the wire is not making a good connection. I prefer solder and heat shrink as I know the connection is good.

I don't know if the unit has a reset built into it or not but all that you would need to do would be to remove the fuse under the dashboard for a few minutes. No need to disconnect the battery.

Maybe Dave or Nick will have a better answer. Good luck.
