Oil Filters — No More Filtech

I have just learned that the Filtech oil filters are no longer being made.

Has anyone here bought a Honda OEM oil filter recently? If so, who manufactured it? How did it look? Any quality problems?

Thanks.

MC

Not OEM, but the Bosch filters are a good alternative.

I only buy OEM ever. I’ve never had an issue.

I just switched to a bosch filter, it's dirt cheap and gets good ratings from a forums like bobistheoilguy etc. We'll see how it holds up...

The OEM that was made by Filtech has been discontinued. The new OEM is made either by Honeywell or Mahle. Wanting to stay with the Filtech for as long as possible, I just ordered ten Filtech filters off of Amazon. We'll see if they are, indeed, Filtechs when they get here.

Don’t be surprised if you get A02s that are re-labeled as A01s. This happened to me before.

You mean, aside for the part number, it said "Filtech" on the filter, but it wasn't Filtech?

Hilarious thing is that it's the same filter on my 1.5L Fit as in the 3.5L Odyssey. If it can handle the requirements on a larger engine, it shouldn't be an issue on the Fit.

Compared UOLs with a peer on here who was running a purolator boss v. my blue honda filter (didnt verify actual manufacturer, but was from honda) he had 10k on his I think and they said try for 12. mine had 5 and was told i may be able to push to 7. Though my memory limited, I recall his being significantly better in terms of particulates. think I was runnin redline 0w20. now 0w30. Cant recall his oil. It was in a UOL thread I posted up a while back.

What do I know

Maybe I haven't had enough coffee yet. What's a "UOL"?

Thanks for the video, doc. So, do you recommend the Honeywell? Another video that I saw pointed out that the metal was thinner on the Honeywell, meaning that it's not going to hold its shape as well going on and off the engine if you are trying to grab it with an oil filter wrench.

Oh sorry dude!! Used Oil Analysis, provided by blackstone labs.
You go on their site and request a container. they ship it to you for free. you put yer used oil in it and send it back with a little purchase paper in it or do the payment online. (theres instructions in the container, but its simple stuff)
its either 20 or 30 bucks depending on if you want the fancy additive test or whatever it was, and yuh prolly do since you already went to all that trouble.

takes a few weeks for free shipping to get the bottle to them and the results to you. can expedite the service with faster shipping. thats. the whole thing!

They dont recommend products or have anything to gain from messing with your report. On the contrary they tell you averages and how far you can stretch your filter and oil's life based on additives retained and cleanliness, as well as if theres anything kinda wonky with your engine like.. if the oil has excess aluminum particulate in it, they may recommend inspection of lower end. Fuel.. piston rings.. you know

Thanks.

This filter does not require a lot of torque; it requires cap wrench to be used for removal which (if used correctly) does its job very well
