What did you do to your GE fit today?
That's actually how a couple of friends realized it was mine when I sent a quick pic right after the accident. It was a response of "is that you?!" "yup! Look at the horns! Dude are you ok!?!"
@Jamy... Just looking at the front I'd guess $4500... I lost most of the front of my car but my hood and fenders were OK and it was $2000 in damage.. That was 5 years back so I am probably off a bit due to inflation...How did you keep from killing the asshole that did that to you?
the driver side was destroyed. The shroud cracked and shattered and the projecter was broken on the bottom left corner

I had to stay away from him. I would have hit him probably had I not. He didn't even come to check on me. The people in the car that I ricocheted into actually got out and yanked my door open before I could recover from the initial shock of the air bags. I called 911 and had 3 units on scene within 30 seconds of me dialing the phone and then EMS and then Fire dept. showed up shortly after. After that I stayed to myself and filled out my paper work and then went to the hospital to get X-ray and checked out.

You were really rocking on getting things accomplished on your car.. I hate that some thing that stupid came down on you man... If you do find something else in the way of a new car I hope that you are around long enough to share your thoughts and reasoning for your choice I'm looking for a decent used car big enough to hall grand children and comfortable enough for my deteriorating old bones... I want my Fit to be a full time toy.

If anyone needs a stock suspension or a stock axle back pm me. I even have a pair of headlights as well. I may be willing to retrofit them if someone wants a mini set done but doesnt want to do it themselves too. Just shoot me a pm if anyone is interested.
I do have GAP insurance. I wasn't too sure on how it worked. Does it pay what I still owe on the vehicle? And then all the money I get from the insurance for the ACV of my Fit I get to put to a new car? My understanding was I would have to use the cash i got from insurance for the ACV of the car to pay what I still owed on the vehicle. If anyone can explain this to me it would really help me out a bunch. Swflej1 you may have just made my day.

IE You owe $10,000, but your car is worth 9000. Without gap insurance, you'd get a check for $9000 (your loss) and still owe the $1000 to the finance company. With gap insurance, they'll send you a check for $10,000. If you're underwater on the loan, you won't come out with any extra cash in your pocket, but you also won't owe on a car you no longer own.
(nitpick, you'll probably still have a deductible to pay).
FWIW, a quick check of nada and kbb both say that a 2010 base mt fit should have a value of ~$11,000 for decent condition. It wouldn't hurt to check used prices in your area if the insurance offer seems a bit low.
Locally there are only 3 base model 2009/10 Fit's and they're all going for about 14k with 30k miles.
I expect regardless of insurance whomever you borrowed money from has first dibs. They get paid first and you get what is leftover.
In most cases what the insurance company values car at is less than what you would find on the market.
Good luck

Yeah I expected as much. It's what ever. My parents have said they will help me out with what ever is needed. I was just hoping it might help them out a bit. The car has been moved to the repair place to get quoted but both insurance reps that I've talked to say that it is probably a total and I should probably start looking for a new car. Which at this point will probably be a CRZ with a 6 speed MT hopefully.
Oh it'll be on my dime. Parents are just going to get me in it. I'll be paying the note on after they put a down payment for me. But yes it will be very nice if I can find MT CRZ. Mom is really pushing it and after looking at the features and what not, plus the available aftermarket support, I'm kinda sold on it.
I'm interested to see what can be done to the electrical motor and battery.
Personally, I would not get a CR-Z. Maybe from a performance standpoint, they can be better than the Fit, but then any stock, remotely performance oriented vehicle will be way faster. They don't look that great either imo. MPG is the only reason I can see getting one, and even then, it has no damn cargo space, or room for other people. For that kind of money, you could get a lot on the used market, and the money you save would probably not be drained by fuel costs like most people assume, but then again, I don't know how much you drive.
Sorry to hear about the car, and that you are alright. That's all that really matters.
