ok now what makes this exhaust so bad? if i had my stock exhaust and this exhaust tip was attached to look like it was part of my exhaust, then would i still get an illegal exhaust mod?

people attach things to their cars all the time; roof racks, ladders, tow hooks, even boat propellers so i dont see why making it a working exhaust or making a fake would matter. and because of this, i dont see why i cant have it on my car, and have any of you heard my car? it isnt that loud i thought it would be way way way louder but the l15 just isnt too noisy

Is it attached to your stock exhaust? or is is just straight pipe? Regardless of the fact the officer probably looked at it as a hazard. Again the officer has the right to interpret the law he suits fit. What exact code was written on your ticket?

you have a piece of exhaust pipe sticking out the back of your car. 3ft??? are you seriously questioning this? There is no way you can compare that to a tow hook or roof rack. and i dont know about you but i dont permanently affix a ladder to my roof.

code is 27151(a)

27151. (a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of the vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits established for the type of vehicle in Article 2.5 (commencing with Section 27200). No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an exhaust system so modified.

(b) For the purposes of exhaust systems installed on motor vehicles with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of less than 6,000 pounds, other than motorcycles, a sound level of 95 dbA or less, when tested in accordance with Society of Automotive Engineers Standard J1169 May 1998, complies with this section. Motor vehicle exhaust systems or parts thereof include, but are not limited to, nonoriginal exhaust equipment.

Amended Sec. 10, Ch. 92, Stats. 2001. Effective January 1, 2002.

taken staright from the dmv website, it says my car cant be moddified to make more noise well i didnt moddify it to do that i did it for other reasons but when this cop pulled me over i was proabably barley hitting 2-3 rpms so my exhaust is extremely quiet at those noises

Also dude you live in California. You should know far too well that any sort of modified exhaust is going to get you a ticket.

Regardless of why you modified it, or the fact that its quiet doesn't matter, its modified and to a cop that = automatic ticket.

I liked the way the interaction with the cop story was told but really was confused by the reaction of the 2 cops that you pulled over for and why you knew they were going to pull you over..... The picture explained it all and I can't stop laughing.... It reminds me of Captain America's chopped Pan Head in "Easy Rider"...... You can't tell me there is any difference between Fit drivers and Harley-Davidson owners after seeing that photo.

Obviously the cop was just giving you a hard time on account of your "Shocker" sticker. I give this thread and your pics 11 points on a scale of 10 (1 bonus point for the shocker sticker).

Guess you also forgot you said this too.

Now back to what TC stated, your state is broke. I'm surprised he only hit you with a $10 ticket. Lucky he didn't call his cop buddies and say, hey come ticket this guy. I guess your quote above is somewhat still valid, I will assume he wasn't CHP but a local officer? Either way you sort of back-tracked on your words above.

You say that doesn't stick out past your bumper? What are you looking at, it has to stick out past your bumper to clear the bottom of it. Or am I missing something?

It is incredibly ridiculous, but he should be able to have it on his car if he wants. Have you seen some of the haircuts people have these days? If people can have mullets then he should be able to have those pipes.
