2013: What is everyone paying?
#101
Prices people are posting are confusing. A price that includes every cost, to drive the car home is one thing. Including sales tax, which can be over $1,000.
If people would post the price paid, less, sales tax, it would be easier to understand. My Fit, Base, m/t was $15,888 +$1,112 sales tax for a total of $17,000

This points out a problem with sales agreements in general; dealers excel at confusing the actual purchase price. It's no wonder people walk away thinking they got a great deal based on their monthly payment.
When I negotiated, amounts were verbal (they refused to put it in writing as it was based on Costco's purchase agreement, "We can't publish those"). The "OTD" price they quoted was $500 out of whack after I'd agreed on a purchase price. Dealers layer on pseudo-official sounding fees that "they have to charge" further confusing the issue. ADM and documentation fees are just added dealer profit and should be considered part of the purchase price (before taxes and state fees). This is where the $500 came from (all dealers in Metro Atlanta seem to do this). I walked and they called me before I got home to reduce the price $500.
Then they split the negotiation in three steps (at least here). 1) Purchase price.... 2) oh and what style floor-mats would you like ($192 for carpeted mats?!)... 3) the interest rate and hard-selling extended warranties and service agreements (F&I guy). After you're done negotiating the purchase price (you should be done at this point) you're only 1/3 of the way to "OTD"!
The cost before state fees and taxes (and after all the crap the dealer tries to get away with) is the most useful for comparison purposes. Even then you can be charged excessive interest rates (dealers profit from this a lot) that will factor in to the cost of the car and not be on the "purchase cost" amount. They got us coming and going...

Dealer here just told me "the car you're interested in is in cleanup. I'll find out if it's been sold already." Yeah whatever. If it's gone I'll drive to the next town where they have another of the exact same car I'm looking for for the same price.

Got it. Sport Manual Vortex Blue Pearl $16738 x 6% tax = $17742 plus $472 in dealer fees, title fees, license fees, yada yada yada = $18214 out the door. This included a credit of $500 from Honda for financing with them so add $500 if you're paying in cash. I recommend taking the $500 credit, financing it, then paying it off immediately ($25 penalty unless you wait until you've accrued at least $25 in interest) or taking your cash and investing it. You'll definitely earn more than the $4xx you would pay in interest charges over the next 5 years.

EV lease for $259 +$30/month tax = $289. No $$$ down, none at the end of the lease, Honda pays my Comp and Collision insurance, free maintenance, roadside assistance, free $1000 220V charger.
The fact that I currently pay $300+ per month in gas to commute means that the EV was FREE!

I'll add one more data point. Doesn't look like I got as good a deal as some have shared.
'13 Fit Sport MT in Black plus dealer-installed "options" (none of which I really wanted):
$17,950 MSRP ("Invoice" was claimed to be around $17,400)
199 pinstripe
199 door edge mouldings
199 fender mouldings
369 installation charge
18,916 Dealer sticker price
Negotiated a price of $17,550, then the dealer added another $150 "document processing fee" once I was too tired to fight any longer, so the total price was $17,700 + tax (9.5% here!) + title + license. I can't recall the exact total, but it's really immaterial to anyone reading this. I probably could have (should have?) pushed harder, but my wife was already crawling under the desk as it was -- next time I'll remember to leave her at home.
I should note that the dealer sticker on the window actually was padded with an extra $850. While the manufacturer MSRP was $17,950 this was listed on the top line of the dealer's sidecar sticker as $18,800. This amounted to a "dealer markup" of $850.
One of the first things the salesman said to me was that the dealership added no "dealer markup". I quickly pointed out the mysterious $850 discrepancy and he said that the "lot guys" must've screwed up when they printed the sidecar sticker. I mused out loud that it was interesting that the error just happened to be in the dealer's favor. I then noticed that precisely the same "error" had been made on the other MT Sport they had on the lot.
The $18,800 figure is the MSRP of the AT Sport, so this was probably an honest "mistake" since they sell many more ATs than MTs, but it still put a sour taste in my mouth. If there were another dealer nearby with a Black MT Sport in stock I might have walked away.

I paid around 18xxx for an AT milano red sport which was the only one within 100 miles of me. Could have found a better deal but with 0.9 financing I didn't really care and needed a vehicle asap. Prices vary fromt state to state I feel I paid a fair price and we are happy. I think taxes (I paid out of pocket) and fees were 1600ish so about 20k all said and done if I remember right.

Fee calculator for CA:
Vehicle Registration Fee Calculator
Although everyone's state should have one, this is a good estimate. My fees were actually a little less. My car was ~$17,500 otd.

Vortex Blue 2013 Fit Sport Automatic $19000 OTD with nothing down and 0.9% financing. No options. Given that included tax, title, etc. and sticker at something on the order of 6 dealers in my area was never lower than $18700, I was happy with that.

I've got a quote for $17,275 OTD + my local taxes and registration fees (of course) for a 13' 5SPD Fit Sport Alabaster Silver with power train warranty extended to 100k.
Think I should bite? I'm really trying to get 17,000 OTD.

Why the hell are you complaining? your 1.49% interest rate is awesome!!
I think you will end up getting the car cheaper then a lot of people, especially if you throw down an extra $100 for principal per month.
you canadians get these cars cheap!! convert your price to US$$!!

After currency conversation, it's $22,342.41 USD. Even with the 1.49% financing.. that's still $4,500-5,000 USD more expensive than what others are paying is it not?
I see people posting they are getting 2013 Honda Fit (AT, which costs $1.5k-2k more) OTD for ~$17,500-18,000 USD. So technically, I'm paying around $7,000 more.

I paid 17625 for the car, but my loan was financed for 19900 after taxes and fees and registration
So you are not too far off. But look at your overall cost. I bet it will be under $26,000 overall with that tiny ass interest rate

Ahhh.. I see, the cars are cheap, but financing is where they get you.
My fit will be $23,734.52 CAD, including the interest I'll pay over the 48-months.
However, I just found out that I can buy a VW Golf 3-door Trendline for $24,354.40 OTD (w/ Heated Seats). 0% Financing for 60 months.
$619.88 more than the Fit, and it has 170HP. And I apologize, I know this is the wrong thread to be posting this, but not that many people post on these forums anyways, and I will post a picture of my new FIT when/if I get it next week

I just bought fit on September 26 and they delivered it to my door too! Which I loved. I Paid $16,215.00 for my 2013 Honda Fit with no miles except the ones to drive it to my house. I also traded in my 2002 Chevy Cavalier for $1,000.00 which made it $15,215.00.
After all was said and done with the admin Fee, Taxes, Extended Warranty 72 Months and 100,000 miles, and with Gap Insurance it cost me 19,307.34 but it will be all worth it to me which is what matters.
My other car was in very dangerous shape it needed rockers, quarter panels, and a new engine cradle because they were all rusted out. Mine is Crystal Pearl Black with 5spd Manual which was in my trade in too.

One idea is to look for recent salvaged cars. People are really skeptical of this, as you should be but really if you can get a good carfax report and make sure story makes sense, then you are likely to get a deal. I paid 9,500 for my 2012 sport with only 5,000 miles. Already to 2k miles on it and it runs like a champ.
