Coilover Install Help!
Coilover Install Help!

So I got coilovers to give me a bigger drop.
My springs weren't cuttin' it.
Unfortunately I have bitten off a more than I can chew and/or I'm being an idiot, but I took out my strut/spring on the driver side, put in the coilover and now I can't get the top bolt on as shown below

I know. I'm an idiot and probably should've had paid someone to do it.
ugh. If anyone has anything helpful about it let me know. I'm going to go back in the garage and just look at it and hate myself some more I suppose
Yes, that's the only reason why you can't nut in the top bolt. There's a DIY thread here with someone popping the axle out. Look it up and see how they popped it back in.
Too sleepy too look, heh

Unfortunately the garage is else where and a buddy gave me a ride so I'll have to check it in the morning

Its probably happened to everyone. Lol. What I did was pull out the whole axle and boot it back in. Its nearly impossible to get it back in while still on the arm. Its also a bitch to do. But just be patient and take it slow.
Thank you everyone. It was a super simple fix. Had a buddy of mine help me out and it literally just slid right in without any effort.
Made me realize how easy it is to actually pop it off in the first place.
I've been working all day so I haven't gotten alot of time to work on the car, but both front coils are in.
Now I put it down to get my height the way I wanted it and realized that my strut is popping through the top mount a bunch. Reused the OEM hat. Maybe I'm missing something? Time to search around some mo.
But again, thank you everyone. Thank god for this forum. So much good, helpful stuff on hereeeeeee. And talk about something going wrong to just sap all the spirit out of you. Ugh.

far from it
haha thanks for the support.
one fix to another problem. I'll take more photos later but I think I may be missing something on the top hat.
This is how it sat for about two minutes. Doubt I'll have it this low, just wanted to see what it'd look like, then I realized something goofy was going on.

I work all day so I have little time to actually work on the car. Luckily I don't have to drive for a long while.
It's back on jacks because when I put it down I noticed that the top of the strut pops up quite a bit from the mount and just thought it was the sketchiest looking thing ever. So far, through all my mistakes, I've learned a hell of a lot by doing the wrong things, but at least all of this is being implanted into my brain.
This is how the strut is pokin through.
it wasn't poking when it was jacked up. I even jacked up the control arm a little bit so I could screw it down properly. But when it hits the floor, *boop*

going back to see what's up. who knows. I feel like I know this (early) process so my take down and setup has gotten more efficient.
It's like 20 degrees right now so everything is going so slow since I keep going back inside to warm up.
Here's an image from hondatuning.com for reference

Took the top hat as shown on the right, put it on the new strut (left), fed it through it's intended location and put the top gromet on and screwed it on tight.
So I believe I'm just makin' rookie/noobie mistakes. I'll admit that. Try. Epic fail.Get laughed at. Learn through all of it. Probably the worst structure for DIY.

When I was doing the spring swap to Swifts, I had forgotten to reinstall the primary piece... that HUGE mushroom looking piece. So, most of the upper strut mount pieces went straight through the opening.
So, Travis, what parts are you reusing? There's a small "donut" shaped piece, which is actually, a couple of pieces snapped together with ball bearings inside (this piece had actually separated a bit when I messed up the reinstall). Then, a nut on top of that. The "mushroom" grommet. I would think you'd be able to reuse those three pieces that go on the underside of the car, unless the coilover set has something that effectively replaces the ball bearing piece. Then, on the top side, there's another rubber grommet, a washer, a nut and a cap.

#s 12, 20 and 13. Then 14, 19, 18 and 3.
Since I've never worked with a coilover, I'll be honest, I don't know what you can reuse.

12, 20, 13. Set preload. Remount. 14, 19 18. Duh.
Time to set my preload and put this back in.
With that note, I love this forum. So damn much.

Awesome job. Half the fun of DIY is getting it wrong and learning more than you thought you signed up for
Of course, DIY can also very easily change its meaning to "destroy it yourself" - that's why forums like these are a godsend.
