I'm on the fence about the new Fit. It's okay looking but you'll have a hard time finding cool modding items for a car that is just newly arrived in N-A whereas there are plenty of small convenience items you can purchase for the 2013 Fit if you choose to buy it.

An important decision to me was to buy a car built in Japan and I think I made the right choice. My 2007 Fit doesn't have much rust at all compared to newer 2012 canadian Fits (made in China!) that are rusting at certain joints after a single year of ownership. The next year Fit will be made in Mexico and is the first year of a completely redesigned car. That's a double whammy, new factory in a new country and a newish model that might have certain "kinks" as others have mentioned. Part of the draw for me buying a Honda is reliability.

If you search for EricTheCarGuy on YouTube, he has an interesting video entitled "domestics vs. imports" in which he talks about the "demise of Honda". In that video, he claims that back in the day when Honda was trying to make a name for itself, it put a lot more emphasis on the quality of their cars to win over customers. I know that the Civic is the #1 selling car in its category (compact) in Canada and must be high in the states so now honda has nothing to prove and has its brand loyalists. Now, foreign econo guys like Hyundai are hiring European companies (BMW, Mercedez etc) to do the styling of their cars and apparently are starting to put out real quality at an unbeatable price (like Honda did, way back).

So, with all that being said, I think that Honda's move to Mexico is simply to increase their profit margin and keep up with demand, which is probably pretty high. I'm very skeptical about this move and would wait for at least 2 years AFTER the arrival of the Mexican Fits to buy one so my recommendation would be to jump on a Japanese made car while they are still available in the color and transmission of your liking.

P.S. The 2013 Fit is an awesome car
