Airbag Recall on 2009-2014 Fit
#541
I'm still waiting for the dealer to ask me to bring my Fit in. I've been driving a loaner car for 2 months now. It's a hyundai accent hatchback which is really great on gas, but man, do I miss my Fit. Can't wait to get it fixed. I'm in Nashville.

over 3 months and still waiting. maybe june, maybe september they told me last week. eventually the passenger side will need replaced too. it is really staggering how many cars have been affected, and will be affected by this recall
#543
Passenger to,really?
#544
we have to wait until June 6th for the official announcement but it seem that the rumblings are yes, passenger airbags are going to be recalled to. I guess I am going to have to clean the back window on the rental as its going to be a staple all summer
#545
I just got called by my nearby Honda dealer to bring my Fit in today to get the airbag fixed. But if they are going to replace the passenger, too, I'd rather just wait until they are able to fix both and do that all at once. I've had the loaner car for almost 2 months, which is what they estimated when I first came in.

from Eight Automakers Recall 12 Million Vehicles For Takata Air Bag « CBS Chicago
Honda says the latest recall covers only about 2.2 million additional Honda and Acura vehicles. The other 2.3 million vehicles were recalled previously for Takata problems. Honda expects the recalls to start in late summer for automobiles and in late fall for the motorcycles.
In addition, the Japanese transport ministry on Friday announced 7 million more Takata-related recalls covering air bag inflators without a chemical drying agent.
Friday’s U.S. recalls include passenger air bags in older models in areas along the Gulf Coast with high heat and humidity. But other areas of the country are also affected depending on the age of vehicles
Here are models covered by the recalls announced Friday:
HONDA: Certain 2003-2006 Acura MDX, 2005-2011 Acura RL, 2009-2011 Acura TSX, 2010-2011 Acura ZDX, 2008-2011 Honda Accord, 2010-2011 Honda Accord Crosstour, 2006-2011 Honda Civic, 2005-2011 Honda CR-V, 2003-2011 Honda Element, 2010-2011 Honda FCX Clarity, 2007-2011 Honda Fit, 2010-2011 Honda Insight, 2002-2004 Honda Odyssey, 2003-2011 Honda Pilot, 2006-2011 Honda Ridgeline, certain 2006-2010 Honda Gold Wing motorcycles.

now I don't see it listed on that release that they are providing free loaners / rentals for the passenger airbag recall. am I to assume that once the driver side is fixed you have to drive your car till its fixed?
#552
Nowhere in the press releases did it mention they are offering loaner/rentals for this latest recall. However, I hope they are, because I want my rental as long as possible!
#553
If I still had my rental, I'd definitely keep it! It was great keeping the miles off my Fit.

I just got off the phone with my dealer after getting a call saying my driver's bag for 2009 Fit will be in stock tomorrow June 1st.
I then called my dealer and said I don't want to drive my car until the passenger bag is replace because I have a passenger in my front seat almost daily who helps me deliver stuff for work. My back seat is always down and in use by "stuff"
She gave me Honda's # and I called them and they said we will not know what will be recalled VIN specific until June 6th or July 6th one of the two, my guess it was June 6th. They said I would have to make a deal with the dealer to keep the loaner.
So I said, there is a 99% chance the passenger air bag is Takata in the passenger side. Sorry if you want to risk my passengers life or blindness, but I won't. Plus I told him my dealer said Honda has no clue what bag is in what car from what they have found. So even if they say my car is safe I don't believe them unless they check it out. Something I want to see with my own eyes now that I know Honda's bookkeeping sucks.
So I denied to bring my car in till my passenger side can be replaced with the drivers side or until I see the brand name myself on the passenger side air bag. We left it at the lady was going to tell this to the service manager and they have my number. So let's see how long it takes to get a phone call back. I do have a Honda based loaner and not a Enterprise or Hertz car.
I also don't want to give this car up and get another one a week or so from now because a rock cracked the windshield and my insurance will have to pay for it. I am not fixing it (passenger side mid top cracked down to wiper out of my viewing area) because this same thing happened to me 20 years ago.......replaced a windshield and two weeks later a rock smacked the new one and had to get that replaced again. I will replace it when I turn it in or have to turn it in. I am to the point where if I am forced to turn it in I will serve legal papers warning if anything happens to my passenger, we hold Honda and this dealer liable for death or maiming of my passenger and me for that matter. This damage or death done by a known airbag issue they knowingly "pushed" back on me and my unknowing passenger.

And 2nd Gen. If my car is on the June 6th list, I'm going to call American Honda and see what the rental situation is.
#558
I called Honda and they don't know yet which vehicles are affected. "After June 6th" (note: not "on", and no date given), we can check our VIN. The people in the call center haven't been told if rentals will be provided. I bet they will be. I'm not going to get my rental until later in July, though, I don't want to deal with it during my upcoming vacation.
#559
I am going to be going in tomorrow to re-up my rental for another month. I am actually hoping that my car in on the newest recall as well AND that they will continue to give out rentals.... I want to keep this truck as long as possible!!

at least 5 auto manufacturers are installing defective airbags at some of their manufacturing plants right now. the alternative is to shut down the factories.
some manufacturers are installing airbags during their recall that will have to be replaced in the future with a better chemical.
there is a good chance the loaner honda , has an airbag that will be recalled. looks like these recalls will take at least another three years to sort through, for at least 15 manufacturers. it's crazy and i would imagine sooner or later a criminal investigation into takata will be opened. not that that will fix anything.
imo each manufacturers ought to offer a way to disable the airbags for now
