Airbag Recall on 2009-2014 Fit
#661
I got the recall in the mail for the passenger side on my 2010 last Feb and had it done at the dealer. This was about 6 months after getting the a driver's side done. I don't know if all 2010's were affected. I'm living in the South and I know those vehicles in the hot climates were more susceptible to the risk.

since when is there a recall for the passenger side now?
i thought it was just for the driver side where the steering wheels is, now i am getting a letter that the passenger side is a problem too, or is it just a scare tatic to get us to do the recall?
-edit: i did a lookup on the honda canada website with my vin# and it only shows a driver side airbag recall, and no passenger side recall
i think they are including the passenger side info in the letters not to scare people to go do the recalls asap

I only had a driver's side done ('11 Sport) but I seem to remember a poster here having their dashboard destroyed by dealer doing the passenger side. Again, dealer only did driver's side on mine. Had to take it back in since there were steering column parts laying on the floor. Most of the time, "fast" doesn't equal "good".

I just check my VIN number on Honda webpage for recall,
Mine is 2013 Honda Fit Sport,
and voila, there is a recall issue for my passenger side airbag just 2 days ago...
I check on the repair manual,
looks like they have to take out the Audio unit too...
well, that mean I better took the audio unit and many things myself,
to make sure the dealer do not drop or scratch mine... before I left my car at the dealership for replacement passenger side airbag...
anyway, I made appointment online to a dealer near me,
hopefully I know soon whether they have the parts in stock or still long long wait...

I received a passenger airbag recall notice by mail in February and had it replaced. It was almost painless. Part was in stock, appointment available the day I requested, in and out in under two hours. The waiting area had free donuts and drinks, along with tables, so not a bad place to hang out. No scratching or any indication of the dash being apart. I was nice and had the storage compartments completely cleaned out before hand.
The service adviser said a car inspection was required (ridiculous), even though I declined it. Then, they didn't end up doing it. Some slight stress there, but it is the dealer looking to extract $$$$ if they can. Hopefully that's it for recalls on this car.

You should get a letter if your address is on file with Honda.

The passenger airbag recall was released on 5/2016 for specific states according to cars.com. Maybe it's possible they're taking care of the older vehicles first and by region? It took Honda 13 months from the time to the recall was issued for my state to send me a letter. From the notice, it appears that parts were not available at the time the recall was first released.

So do you think all Fits will eventually have passenger side recalls?

Man, finally got my driver airbag recall done in November, now have to do the passenger side.
Got the notice the other day, but it'll have to wait a bit until I can get my Fit back on the road.
Waiting for my supercharger to get back to me (it sprung a leak around the time I got the driver airbag recall done) before I schedule an appointment. I want to do the recall ASAP, but it'll be pointless to schedule an appointment date and then have it go by before my Fit is back on the road.
Until I got the notice, I hadn't realized the passenger side was also recalled.
I wonder if it's related to some batch of airbags or something... it could be all GE Fits if its related to Takata (and assuming they were the only source Honda used for airbags).

They did both of mine when I had it done about 4 months ago. The service guy at the dealer said it was to get all of the Takada branded airbags out of all Honda vehicles in North America. No idea if that's correct but they did do both of them.

From my second gen ownership experience, I'd say yes. I'd be very surprised if multiple suppliers with different designs were used. Honda seems to very consistent on parts/suppliers, probably to their detriment on the Takata airbags.
