Odd that they'll be releasing them so soon in Connecticut. That gives me hope for the Southeast!

I had to sign a document stating that I wouldn't drive it other than to/from the dealership. So we drove across the street to pick up the rental car, went to the gas station, through the car wash, and parked it in the garage. I figured that extra distance was minimal.

Just in case, I did take a picture of the odometer at the dealership and once I was home in the garage.

Good luck!
My Fit is already at said dealer, has been for a few weeks now. I've stopped by once with my other key and started it. I work 7 on/7 off, almost done with this rotation, so I'll stop by and start it again. I just hate seeing it sitting out in the field with the rest of the cars. I'm worrying about the battery going flat since its so small, but what can you do when they wont let you take the car back home?

Airbag recall notice - it's in the mail

I'm in Florida, I got my '09 Fit airbag recall notice from Honda by mail about 3 weeks ago. Called dealer to schedule a service appt. They do not have the replacement airbags in stock yet, they will in a couple of weeks or so. I checked my '09 Fit on the Honda recall database last year but it didn't show the '09 Fit as a recall for that. Now with all the Takata fallout, Honda isn't willing to take any lawsuit chances. Probably a cheaper risk to simply eat the recall cost than pay any potential injury claims.

FWIW My experience so far with my affected 2010 Fit Sport:
Purchased at Lindsay Honda near Columbus, OH early 2011
They teamed up with HERTZ AND ENTERPRISE to get enough cars to provide myself and anyone else affected (to my knowledge) with a rental car. I saw the bill for the expected 2 month rental car reservation $2,100 completely covered by Lindsay/Honda etc. They don't have enough space to store everyone's so I get to keep it at my place / move it around to avoid flat spots on tires / start it up occasionally. Just had to sign an agreement not to drive it on the road. I'm happy and saving miles on my Fit.

When I went to pick up my round three rental from Enterprise, the agent said that locally Honda is currently paying for around 250 rentals. My calculations put this at approximately $232,500/month that American Honda is paying just in my relatively small neck of the woods. How is Honda going to recoup the millions they're paying for these rentals? Raise the price of their cars?

NC statute says that insurance companies can't cover consecutive rentals. I have been renting from Enterprise for 21 days, then the dealer for a day, then back to Enterprise. Enterprise hasn't even asked for my insurance, so my company will see each 21 day period as a stand-alone rental.

I went to Honda dealer yesterday to sign the rental contract (3x) again and they said they received Two airbags but its for CR-V and none for Fit. So looks like the parts are coming in but not a lot.

Is your insurance carrier covering the rental? I would have assumed Honda ...
Speaking as having some insider knowledge, generally speaking insurers do not need to cover rentals for recalls; that's between you and the manufacturer at fault. Of course, they could voluntarily cover it beyond the contract obligation, nothing prevents that.

disable air bag?

Does anybody know if it is possible to disable the airbags until the fix comes into the dealer?

Toyota is disabling airbags, but they're also recommending you not sit in that seat afterwards. I would not recommend disabling the airbags. Relatively safe if you pull a fuse, unsafe if you attempt to disconnect otherwise. And much more likely for you to die in a crash without an airbag than if it goes off. Remember, the actual failure RATE upon deployment is extremely low.

Just try not to hit anything. That's the best advice.

It's higher risk if you live in humid places and your car is old. In which case, take a loaner if you're worried. Is CA humid? Not to my knowledge .. unless you park near the beach ..

Got the loaner 2016 Fit LX

Goudy Honda in Alhambra called us to come in to receive our loaner from the dealer and to return our Nissan Versa Note rental. They gave us a red 2016 Honda Fit LX with just 509 miles. Took us almost a month but still worth waiting I guess.

They say that they will check on the car every 30 days and there is no mileage limit.

Does that steering wheel trigger any lights on the dash to stay on?

no lights comes on, the works bell hub came with air bag resistors to trick the srs to think there is a airbag present for the driver side, while the other airbags are still functional
