Airbag Recall on 2009-2014 Fit
Got 40 mpg (85% hwy) in a 2015 Nissan Versa Note SV, CVT.
Smooth on the highway, gutless, pretty stable going straight. Wimpy horn. Engine and tranny sound rough at start up (32K miles from enterprise).

Me and my parents felt that the Versa Note is a lot smoother and has a better ride than our Fit. But it is pretty weak.
Yes, same dealership, same rental probably (just few buildings down mail street).
It's smooth but the steering feel is a lot less connected and less informative.
For passengers, definitely smooth, especially the rear lounge sofa (they are known for executive class rear seat).
Did you have a sport or a base fit? What year?
I definitely prefer the way mine rides. And of course my fit is a 5SP manual, though in traffic, the auto is a lot easier
Did the dealership hold your fit ?

And yeah the Versa has a really big rear seat for its size but prefer the magic seats on the Fit. My parents say that they think the steering feel of the Versa is more 'smoother' than the Fit's. The dealer said that after 2 weeks, they will give us one of their own dealer loaner cars. Hopefully they give us a 2016 Civic, since I really like the new model.
Well that sucks Mister Coffee...Did you call Honda America and get a case manager and case number? I bet it has something to do with they may have small lots considering you are in LA. My dealer here in San Diego wanted to keep my car and I mentioned I wanted to keep it and they replied with "Oh that's fine too, but we have way more than enough space to store it if you'd like". I just don't like the thought of some service guy having to move my car and doing something I wouldn't do in my car, or kill my clutch and blame it on me etc. I went in after setting up a case, having a case # and calling the service guy to clarify what was going to happen prior to going. I didn't ask too many questions about parts considering I did this at the beginning of March and knew it'd be months before parts came along so I didn't expect the dealer to have any "good" answers.
I also received my recall notice over the weekend.

Ours is a 2013 Fit base model with 5AT but the dealer installed Sport alloy wheels when we got the car. And yeah the dealer will be keeping our car. What about you?

I wouldn't mind getting another loaner but this one gets the job done at 40 mpg overall. Actually I hate the idea of driving a rental and having someone pay big money while my car sits unused. What a mess for the Honda company.
After back and forth banter with dealer and Honda; I decided to continue driving my Fit until the airbag gets installed. No rental for me. I love my Fit and use it for carrying my mountain bike and kayak. All the rentals offered didn't work for me. In Canada there hasn't been one documented incident of airbag deployment issues. I'm not ruining my summer and worrying about some very unlikely occurrence. I'll probably have a better chance of getting struck by lightning. I'm 64 and want to enjoy every summer possible.
Spoke to "Donna" at American Honda. 888-234-2138
She said:
--Replacement parts expected sometime this summer
--Dealer will notify me when parts are in
--There is no protocol in place for handling the service. It's all up to the dealer.
--Rental Allowance: $35 per day max.
--Dealer will store car or I could sign a waiver not to drive it.
--With regard to paying for a city street parking permit for the loaner, I have to ask the dealer (who already told me I have to ask American Honda)
--To find out everything else, I have to go back to the dealer that told me nothing in the first place. In short, a runaround.
All I got out of this call was a case number and a "Have A Nice Day."

Cleared it up with insurance. They provide collision for rental cars up to 30 days and beyond that if approved. They indicated that if it was a recall and the part wasn't in, they would extend it as long as it took.
Yeah, they kept mine too. Hopefully they parked it in shade in the garage. I want to go there and move it a bit to prevent flat spots as well as to find some way to top off the battery.

I was at my dealership this morning for an oil change, and they didn't even mention the recall at all until I mentioned it when I was paying. The service manager said they had no idea when parts would be in, and when I asked about a loaner, he just matter-of-factly shook his head and said "nope, we don't have any, they're all spoken for." I asked what the possibility was of them having more become available, he just said there aren't any.
So that pretty much goes completely against what the recall letter and what Honda's own statements say. He seemed to basically be trying to avoid the topic as much as possible so he didn't have to deal with it.

Leave your Fit at home...
So for the people getting loaners, you really need to leave your car at Honda until summer or whenever the parts get in?
I'd really hate to have my car just sitting outside for months on end in the back of a dealership with access to anyone who works there. I've had bad experiences in the past with dealerships taking unnecessary "joy rides" in my vehicle. (Happened at Subaru with my STI)

I spoke with someone at Honda who said that I should plan on leaving my car at my home for the time being. Apparently, I need to bring a photo on my cell phone of my milage to show where the mileage is and I have to agree to NOT drive my Fit until they are able to fix the airbag issue. I'm bummed I won't be able to drive my Fit for a while (love my car) but I'm cool with using a loaner car and keeping the mileage down on my Fit for a while.
Yes, the loaner is available....
I just picked up my loaner car. It was from Avis. I went to the dealer with my registration, insurance card, drivers license, and a pic on my phone of my mileage. The rep in the service area took my info and I emailed him the pick of the mileage to his email. Once they can fix my car, he will call me and I can only add the mileage to my current odometer that it takes to get to the service center (about 11 miles). He told me that if it's more than that, Honda may not pay for my rental car. I'm not going to risk it. I am planning on starting my Fit at least once a week to make sure that the battery doesn't die and I'm also going to get a car cover for it since I don't have a garage where I can store it. I'm going to drive the piss out of that loaner car. It's unlimited mileage and they may call me every so often to check on where the mileage on the rental car is at. But that's what I got out of this whole thing. Just know that I did get an official notice in the mail about it before I called them, so make sure your Fit is part of the recall before you go to the trouble of going to get the loaner car.

i didnt know honda would do that.
