Airbag Recall on 2009-2014 Fit
Overall, Honda has handled the recall pretty well. I think they took too long to get the current notices out, and a couple of reps at American Honda fell short on customer service skills, but it all seems to be going smoothly. When I picked up my rental from the dealership today, I was told that they're hearing April is when the parts will arrive. Of course, he said to take that lightly.I'm in a 2012 natural gas powered Civic for 24 hours, then I can go back to Enterprise for another 21 day rental. After driving the Altima that I've had for the past 21 days, the Civic and the Fit feel rough and weak. Nevertheless, I miss my Fit and can't wait to get it back on the road.
Hi all. New to the forums. Just heard about the recall through a friend who got a letter in the mail. Has anyone, particularly in SoCal, been able to have the dealer store their car? I live in an apartment complex with only one parking spot for myself, so I wouldn't have room for my Fit plus a loaner.
I have a 2011 Fit Sport AT with 151000 miles on it. I got the recall notice on Saturday. I called Honda and told them I was moving from Maine to Kentucky in four weeks or so. They said I could arrange a loaner here or in Kentucky. I'll probably wait until I move down there, because I have to haul a bunch of stuff. I use my Fit to haul mountain bikes, dogs and other things. I wonder how I could arrange something with similar hauling capabilities thru Enterprise.
Another thing I mentioned was private resale value, which at this moment in time, until the repairs are made, is zero. As in, "I'll sell you my car, but you can't use it until the recall is taken care of next summer" The representative didn't have a response to this. I wonder how this would affect the trade in value? Any ideas.

Got my notice today. Parts available "in the Summer of 2016." American Honda will send me another notice when the parts are available.
Went directly to Honda of Hollywood. Spoke to Danny Gonzalez, Service Advisor:
Me: "About the airbag recall . . . . "
DG: "We don't know anything that you don't know."
Me: "When I get the notice from America Honda that the parts are in, will that mean that you'll have the parts here in this dealership."
DG: "I have no idea."
Me: "How will the service be handled?"
DG: "I have no idea."
Me: "Is there a list that I could get on? Like a priority list?"
DG: "Nope."
Me: "There's no protocol for how to handle this?"
DG: "Honda has not told us how we're going to schedule the services."
Me: "Can you store my car here if I decide to take it off the road?"
DG: "Nope."
Me: "I have to get a city permit to park a second car on the street. Will Honda reimburse for the permit?"
DG: "I have no idea.'
Me: "Huh?"
DG: "You'll have to call 'em."
Me: "Thanks."
DG: "No problem."
Note: With regard to my posts above, you may have wondered why I was a bit cynical about warranty work and dealership service. This is the reason.

Well that sucks Mister Coffee...Did you call Honda America and get a case manager and case number? I bet it has something to do with they may have small lots considering you are in LA. My dealer here in San Diego wanted to keep my car and I mentioned I wanted to keep it and they replied with "Oh that's fine too, but we have way more than enough space to store it if you'd like". I just don't like the thought of some service guy having to move my car and doing something I wouldn't do in my car, or kill my clutch and blame it on me etc. I went in after setting up a case, having a case # and calling the service guy to clarify what was going to happen prior to going. I didn't ask too many questions about parts considering I did this at the beginning of March and knew it'd be months before parts came along so I didn't expect the dealer to have any "good" answers.
I also received my recall notice over the weekend.

Okay, I will read backwards regarding insurance. My Honda dealer is going through a different rental company and they want to charge minimum $15 per day for collision insurance. My insurance company will cover liability.
I'm going to get back with my insurance company, but are others here having to pay for collision insurance or has Honda agreed to cover insurance?

Okay, I see this is discussed elsewhere, and it looks like my policy only covers me up to 30 days.
I guess the underlying question is -- am I all wet to think that Honda should pick up the cost of collision insurance above and beyond what my current policy covers?

Got the notice today.....thing is car was totaled in an accident on 3/9, and I was to drop off the car and get a loaner the following day....
needless to say....the first thing I checked was if I or my passenger were ok from the airbag....some burns and cuts on the forearm but thankfully we were ok....
My advice to you all is to get yourselves to a dealership asap....you dont want to roll the dice on this one and oftentimes you dont even get the chance to roll the dice at all.

I went to Galpin Honda of Mission Hills, CA. They were aware of the airbag recall, but they couldn't provide me a loaner. I was told they were out of loaners, including the 3rd party company they were working with to provide rentals. I put my name on a waiting list.
I called a 2nd dealer, Robertson Honda of North Hollywood, CA, and they said the same thing. No loaners or rentals available. Added name to a waiting list.
I know there's probably a lot of people getting these notices and going to the dealership, but I'd rather not take my chances for another 4-5 months as we wait for parts to come in. Especially here in LA. Lots of crazy drivers here!
Has anyone experienced the same?

My dealer uses Hertz and all i can say is that driving a ford focus hurts!. I'm going to try to exchange it for a hyundai or nissan.

Honda should give an option to buy back the affected vehicle(s) with the trade in value at that time . Using one of the auto appraisers such as Edmunds , K.B.B. etc.. Also , the owner should be able to haggle as if trading in towards another vehicle . This would save HONDA thousands of $ by not having to pay for loaners / rentals off their lots or rental companies at $35+ a day . Silly , not to consider this .

I was told yesterday at the dealer that parts will start shipping in April to places like New Orleans, SC, etc. Hopefully they will move up to NC soon.
Currently I'm in a Yaris----worse than the Fit in some ways, better than others. It's a little more fun to drive than the Altima I had for the first 21 days, but certainly not as nice a car.

I'm currently struggling to get 32 MPG in a 1.4T Chevy Sonic, a car rated for 27/37.
Meanwhile my LIFETIME average in my Fit is 39.7 MPG, a car rated for 27/33.
Turbos & many gear autos are not the future.
NA, lightweight, manual transmissions & good driving; now we're talking.

LOL! Before I bought my Fit, I drove a Ford Focus about 35-37k miles a year in my business. My other vehicle is a 2003 F150. Driving the F150 was like a driving a Cadillac after a week in the Focus. I will say that the Focus was very reliable.
