2nd Generation GE8 Specific DIY: Repair & Maintenance Sub-ForumThreads discussing repairs and maintenance you can do yourself on the 2nd generation Honda Fit (GE8)
I know this is the 2nd Gen thread, but I wanted to share this for contrast or lack of. I just did this mod to my '15 Fit tonight. It was as easy as everyone else has said. I think the trickiest part was getting the trunk panel off. I used a panel puller to start at the bottom edge.
This is the GK panel after removal. Once it starts to come off, it's pretty easy.
The wiper spindle cover comes off by simple pulling it off. Looks the same as GE. The nut is removed with a 10mm socket and the wiper arm took a little bit of strength to remove, but not terribly difficult.
Here's the motor assembly before removal.
The power clip was super easy to remove and hex bolts removed easily with a 10mm socket.
There are the four screws to remove. For me, they were a just little tough, but really not bad at all.
This is the inside assembly of the gear and pinion. It's just like the previous generations.
The plastic part came off easily enough, but I used a thin tool to lift the metal link to avoid removing too much grease with my hands.
My rear windshield is dirty which makes it easy to line up the wiper blade with what will be the resting position.

How do I change the angle of the blade in the off position? I did this mod and the blade sits right at the angle so that you can't pill the blade away from the windshield without hitting the spoiler on my Sport
Mine too but if you flex the blade when pulling it back off of the window, it'll clear the spoiler. Yes, a slight PITA but this positioning seems to be a better wiper orientation in my snowy climate.
Finally took the time to do it..... like it way much more than the way it comes from factory...
And it doesn't blocks any more view, since it rests behind the rear passenger side head rest.... AND less dust and dirt on the windshield because wiper fluid runs off instead of just sitting on top of it...
Hardest parts were:
- Removing the rear wiper (it was stuck there!);
- Unplugging the motor connector (didn't know there was a DIY for the GE, so checked the thread for the GD, and didn't see how to unhook the connector - when you know hos to unplug it, it takes 5 seconds to do so).
I did this one today. For some reason, it doesn't work. The wiper moved halfway up the window, and stopped. So now I've got a wiper pointing straight up. It seemed very simple to do, I'm not sure what I possibly could have done wrong. Is there maybe a way to reset the position of everything so I can start over?
