Quick review of Black EX w CVT in Cincinnati

Wanted to share as I've mostly been a "lurker" here since April 2014 and have gained a lot from you all. I drove home an EX model with CVT today and wanted to share in hopes this might help somehow. (See my other post under "...what you paid.")

First impressions from a NON-expert (I'd rather be riding a train than driving a car):
  • This rides like a much bigger car. I compare it to my wife's Toyota Prius 2004. Very similar in terms of smooth, quiet ride. The CVT transmission sounds and runs like the Prius so I had zero issues adapting.
  • Mine is black inside and out, so man, it's like 99.9% black. Shiny black.
  • The "trunk" has no cover - though there's a place for one - so passersby can see what's in there. Why this is not standard on the EX makes no sense. I told dealer to order me one.
  • The fancy front and back seats are even easier to manipulate than I thought.
  • Love the "nap" mode where you can make the front seat the ottoman for what amounts to a big Lazy-Boy.
  • Holy crap! When you signal right it shows you a movie of what's in your blind spot.
  • Radio REALLY needs a volume knob.
  • My Nexus 4 phone won't connect properly, but it's had issues connecting via Bluetooth to just about everything, so I'll blame it, not the car.

Lot's better pics out there, so here's one of the tiny engine compartment.

Again, thanks for all the good advice and info I got here. Nobody else had ANY news about the lateness of the Fit.

Test drove an EX CVT and it has a full skid plate. Who got the idea that one model doesn't get it?

I can't find these are Tirerack. Only Firestone FR710. The FR710's weigh in at 18lbs a piece. Need to keep this as food for thought. Thanks for disclosing tire model and size. Still will look for exact model.

The Firestone FR740 is the tire currently used on the corolla S in a 215/45/17. It looks like that is the only size that the tire has been released to tire dealers in. Interestingly, it is not listed as a low rolling resistance tire.

For reference in the 215/45/17 size the Firestone FR740 weighs 22 pounds which is exactly average for this size which ranges in weight from 20 to 24 pounds

Two questions (Dunno if they have been answered, if they have, then my apologies):

1) How is the cabin noise compared to the GD or GE?

2) How is the acceleration compared to the GE or GE?

Congrats on your new GK EX. Do continue to share pics and impressions. Its your turn to "give back" to this bountiful, information-filled forum. I, likewise, picked up a whole lot from the more learned. Enjoy the drive!!!

Thanks for the engine picture. **Scratching head** Where is the intake? Is that the throttle body in the lower right hand corner?

Trying to see the routing of the intake tubing and if it can possibly be made to cold-air.

Also, thanks for your feedback on how you like the car.

I took it out this morning and ran it through the gears using the paddle shifters, I am quite impressed and it really has great pickup and go! I don't see how one could not be impressed with the simplicity and also the manual capability of the CVT.

We were just assuming that maybe only the LX had it to partially explain the extra fuel economy.

VIN# 3HGGK5H84LM706444, a Milano Red EX just came off of the hauler @ Phil Hughes Honda in Athens, Georgia & is headed for PDI if someone wants to jump on it. Did not get too many details about the build as the guys in the prep dept. were whisking it away as I walked beside it to get the VIN.
In a related Georgia dealership note, Honda Mall of Georgia in Buford, Georgia got 4 GK's yesterday at about this time. All that I was permitted to see was a EX-L with Navi in Modern Steel Metallic. I was told that the other 3 were EX builds; no colors or details disclosed.

I got to see and then ride in a manual LX, polished metal metallic. I must say it is really different. There just happened to be a 2nd gen right next to it and I still like the look of the sport kit on the upper trim level. I wonder why it wasn't included on the 3rd gens here in the US.It could really use it. The ride was okay and the leg and head room is fantastic, especially in the back. I'm eager to see an EX-L.
