I have had problems with the starter on my 2015 Fit, starting at 36,300 miles. I replaced the battery, thinking it was that, but no go. The entire starter had to be replaced. I called Honda and their reply was "So sorry, but too bad for you." I will never buy another Honda again.

That pains me to say as I'm not a fan of modern Toyota's in general and prefer Honda's.
Actually, my family members that have owned newer model Kia's haven't had issues either. The cars are inferior in some ways, but don't seem to have random parts like starters failing or noises on start up.

Well...
You're dealer saying they've never heard of a Fit..or any vehicle having difficulty starting is BOGUS.
There are many things that can affect many vehicles as far as start up.
I don't know at this point what your problem may or may not be.
Except for being a safety interlock, your brakes don't affect the vehicles ability to start. If you heard the engine at all? Then it isn't the brakes. If you hadn't pressed hard enough on the brakes, I don't think the engine would turn over or try to turn over at all.
It could be battery, starter....
And I don't trust a dealers when presented with the symptom of a hard start, that says....I've never heard of this issue happening before....
It kind of happens to nearly all vehicles if kept long enough.

The two biggest lies told by service departments:
"They all do that".
"No, that's the first time we've ever heard of that happening".
I'm convinced they actually teach these standard all-purpose responses in service school. I can just picture the instructor saying, "okay, class, repeat after me, 'they all do that,' again, 'they all do that'".
