Question about immobilizer

I've been doing some searching and have not been able to find a definitive answer on something. I have a 2015 EX 6MT with the Smart Key. As it's been quite cold in the mornings, I've been starting my car and letting it warm up while I finish getting ready in the house.

The car does not allow me to lock the door from the door handle button when it is running, so I'm a little concerned about security. The car beeps when it is running and the key gets outside the sensible proximity, but still allows it to idle. I'm wondering if there is a feature where the immobilizer would cut the fuel system off if someone attempted to jump in and drive off with it.

Anyone have any info on this?

Immobilizer

Hi,

As far as I know, anyone can get into your car while its running and drive away with it. They just will never be able to turn it off, as *then* the immobilizer would kick in.

Correct, the car wont restart without the key, but there is no way to secure the car while it's running if you have the smartkey system. This was a major bummer for me.

This problem must be limited to the MT version. One of the nice features about the remote start option (for CVT models), is the door remains locked while starting, then requires you to unlock the door to get in and leave.

Not talking about remote start here. Just the normal Smart-Key system.

Perhaps I misunderstand, but if you take the smart key with you and someone jumps in the car to drive away it will stop after 25 feet or so. I've seen it do that when the salesperson went to fill up my car without the smart key in the car. Yet the car was continuing to idle without the smart key in the car. This is true of the CVT at least.

Hmmmm...interesting. So just to clarify, in this instance you speak of the car did not continue driving but did in fact continue to run?

I haven't tried this but I would think it would work.

Start the car, get out, close the door. Take the physical key out of the smart key and lock the car by inserting the key and turn it. That should lock all the doors.

Again, I haven't tried it, but common sense tells me it should work. If it doesn't, that's dumb.

This does work. That's what I do when I start my car at work.
