In urban areas with lots of traffic my Galaxy s5 running a Waze app can't be beat. Crowdsourcing traffic data is wonderful! Every user becomes a traffic sensor!

Waze has indeed taken me on some interesting trips in LA when traffic is nasty. It will find the fastest route even when that route is through twisting narrow streets. Every time I ignore Waze's advice to turn I regret it because right around the next corner traffic backs up! I've never had the network delays described by an earlier poster using Verizon.

The fact that it allows users to mark police traps is a definite bonus, too.
Perhaps I'm slow, but I find Waze inscrutable.

Someone intelligent enough to look up a word they didn't know.

Sorry, hadn't meant to be, well, inscrutable.

No worries. Now I can use that word to perplex others!

I find Waze a simpler interface. Like when plugging an address, just plug in the full address or name and it finds it. With my Garmin, it asks what city or you have to change the state if it's a different state. Then the street number. Then the street name.

I don't know. I launch the app, hit the microphone button, tell it where I want to go, and 95% of the time it recognizes the destination. It even remembers and suggests trips that I have taken repeatedly at a certain time of day.

It's pretty easy to use!

My old Garmin did that City, State, Street Number then Street Name. The new Garmin no long requires those procedures. The new Garmin is like Waze now, just type in street number and name, the results appear instantly. Also, with new Garmin, you can type in the business name, it's there, too.

Took a road trip to upstate NY through PA over the weekend and I glad I have my Garmin as a backup. When going through some of those mountains, you'll lose cell connection and Waze only gives general location data. The Garmin kept on chugging along.

Streaming music also went out, but I just switched to local music as I'm not a fan of listening to the radio.

I have an older Garmin I transferred from a Suzuki SX4. A later model of the SX4 had a built in Garmin. The device is attached to a cup holder stand that sits in the right hand cup holder just below the a/c controls. It has a 4.5 in. screen. It talks but it doesn't listen. I bought the life time maps later {now standard) and it does a good job. The voice (Jack for American) sometimes has a hard time with some local street names, which is sometimes good for a chuckle.

Will Garmin do voice entry yet?

Depends on the model and how much you're willing to pay

Mine does. Also is voice activated and you can select the voice prompt. It's still not as fluid as waze in that regard though.

I recommend to use the nanotech type phone holder, not recommend to use magnetic one.
