DIY: Independent Fogs
#81
Is this guide applicable to both the GD and the GE?
My only concern about running the high beams with the fogs is that it would overheat the harness and damage it. That was always the reason for not being able to run them together on my previous cars and assume it's for the better on the Fit.

The general reason for not allowing the highbeams and foglights to work together is the Motor vehicle regulations in most places requireing that the fog lights only be alowed on during lowbeam operation.

Great mod. I just completed mine today and it was very easy with this writeup... except for one thing, Do you have infant size hands because it took me forever trying to get the nut off for the ground and ended up using a different location just because it was impossible for me to get in there. your pictures make it seem like theres lots of room in there but WTF I couldn't squeeze more than half a hand in there.
still a great write up. Make sure you have ALL your supplies before starting though. I had to make 3 trips to my 3rd story apartment while doing this mod. my bad

So much for that. Verified #21 is always hot and 13 is def. ignition switched (so honda wasn't lying about SRS). They must have changed something between 2007 and 2008. And why is #21 a 20A fuse anyway? It has a relay under the hood, unless this one passes all the current for the relay, bulbs, and switch, in which case I can see people burning out their harnesses grabbing this current from 16GA wire somewhere.
Need a schematic. Not too keen on cutting my harness quite yet.

Ah, went the old way and tapped the steering column. Once I saw 18 AWG wire to the switch I relaxed a bit. An hour and a good ol' wire tuck later, success. #2 is ignition switched on my fuse box and it was open so I used that.
#21 as indicated in the first post of one of these DIY doesn't work like you'd think. It's always hot but the switch is after the fuse and the sensor before - meaning you can turn the fogs on without the key or parking lights but it'll ding at you with the door open (which would make this the logical slot if you want that capability) although getting the add-a-circuit in backwards there is a pain.

No idea britdevine...
Woah I noticed something really weird with this the other day. Anyone who's done it, check it out!
When the parking lights are turned on, the dash lights as well as the radio display dim according to the setting of the knob in the gauge cluster. After the mod, this still works perfectly.
Leave the parking lights off and turn on the fog lights. The gauge lights dim as they should and the knob still controls brightness. But hey wait! The radio is still full brightness, and only dims to the knob's set level when the parking lights are turned on!
That is some odd stuff.

Del muerto, but for a reason...
Found today that with this mod and foglight switch on:
ignition off, foglights always off.
ignition ACC, foglights off, but turn ON if HIGHBEAMS are on. Try to work by highbeam light with the radio on when adjusting fogs? No way, josé!
ignition on, foglights on unless highbeams are on, as normal (but stay on if other lights off)
Still will dim the gauge cluster but not the radio without the parking lights on with ignition on.
I think Honda tried to reinvent the wiring harness.

Definitely the best quicky mod that is cheap/easy and adds function. I hate losing fogs with high beams, and with as foggy as it gets on NorCal coast, fogs work better without headlights. With 3000k HID fogs, it makes it even better All cars should come with this mod done already.
