this is mind boggling... packing tape on the hood itself and removing it leave sticky tarnish

Sorry about the hood coming in damaged....everything is insured and a replacement will be sent.

Unfortunately in the past we've always had issues with shipping the OEM style cf hoods we initially made. However, this method (which you feel is inadequate) worked better for us. And by looking at the box, it looks like it was mishandled....I feel you shouldn't be blaming this on us (in my opinion). Lastly, there's more risk of larger items to be damaged.

Anyways...a new one will be coming.

In regards to the tape, there's no other way to get the foam sheets to stay. The residue can easily be waxed off. Please do let me know if you think there's a better method.

Again...sorry for the inconvenience.

And we do care about packaging our items.

I was wondering if anyone who is ordering a CF hood is going to be putting it on a Black GE? Sorry, but I forget the official name for the color.

I just want to see the CF version on a black car to make my final decision as to which type of hood I want. CF hood on a black car or a painted fiber glass hood to match the car?

Thanks

A CF hood would look dope on a black Fit!!! It does'nt stand out too much, so it won't look like too much rice, but still it will give a nice contrast... just don't put real CF if you're planning on wraping anything with CF vinyl :P
Don't go with fiber glass unless you don't want your hood to be a main feature... if you put CF that should be the most drastic exterior mod, or you will screw up the look

I know that this is dark blue, but close enough...

a former GD fit owner (Guinness) in Vancouver used to roll in a black GD w/CF hood. very sharp looking car. a black fit with a CF hood looks awesome.

A few notes here but...the last time I had a hood shipped to me they actually bolted a piece of plywood into each set of bolt holes that protected the ends from being damaged and it worked great. As far as taping the actually hood doesn't really seem like an issue to me. I think the way you packed the ends was adequate JDP....but for probably a buck more you could use the wood method and save yourself some headache and time dealing with insurance claims. As far as my hood is concerned I think I will have to have you mail it to some friends in Washington. I don't find paying $190 reasonable shipping and I know the shipping rates not your choice

JDP, please see my message sent with the payment. If you must put tape directly on the hood I understand. I would just prefer to keep the surface as clean as possible since i am having it painted.

Thanks!

Payment received.

Unfortunately, tape will need to be placed on the hood.

The body shop will need to prep the hood before painting which shouldn't be a problem when applying the paint.

I agree with everyone else that CF on black is dope. I know you didn't mention it, but I absolutely hate the CF vinyl wrap...it really doesn't look like CF and my prediction is this fad will die by the end of this year...left only to the ultra-ricers and those "ballin' on a budget."

Personally, I want to keep my Fit low key and that is why I went with painted fiberglass. This will escape the average eye...but those who are into the Honda scene will immediately recognize something's up

/off topic: My car gets noticed all the time and I'm pretty low key as it is....but I ALWAYS keep it clean! Funny story...I pulled up next to some young guys (mid/late 20's) on V-twin cruisers at a red light...and one of them hollared "Bad ass!" at my lil ol' Fit I've even heard a couple of neighborhood kids say, "I want a car like that when I grow up."

/on topic

how much does the CF hood and the original hood weight?
I heard that CF hoods weight 30% less than regular ones

Looks like my hood got pretty dinged up as well. The wifey took some cell phone pics for me, but the quality isn't worth posting up here. I'll have to survey the damage when I get home tomorrow...looks like 0/2 at this point.

I was thinking, if you decide not to go with the plywood idea....why not reinforce the foam wrap with lots of tape on those corners? Imagine a foam cone wrapped tightly with clear packing tape...this would give a stiff insulated shell and, if the cone is extended sufficiently beyond the corners, would prevent end on damage.

I guess I got lucky. Just got mine in from the UPS guy. I was his last stop and I inspected it upon arrival. The only thing I can see on a quick inspection is the clear coat on the front lip of the hood is slightly rubbed off from being against the cardboard or foam. I'll get pics up in a little while.

Come on.

I was going to write a post about how bad this is, looks, feels as a customer, but I think you might already know that. So... what I'm trying to say is, REALLY? come on man, even if this is bad luck 2 out of 10 shipping mishaps is kinda bad. Mine has unfortunately shipped, I hope you changed you methods before you you let it ship freight across country.

fingers crossed
