Mileage reports: Manual transmission (5MT)
you can bet that i will post some actual numbers in the next week. i'll also get some scanguage data up.
sooner or later i'll fas and p&g it, to see what is possible
im optimistic that the car can crack the 60mpg barrier and beyond (70?)
even if my 49.3 mpg reading yesterday was 10% optimistic, that would be 44mpg actual without much hypermiling (i only coasted down 3-4 hills)

Big news for me: my average mpg for the life of my Fit (that is including every single fill up and every single mile driven accept for the two tanks I missed because my wife filled up and didn't write down the mileage) is now just over 40 mpg: that's 40.03156 mpg for the life of my Fit (a little more than 15,000 miles).
And now on to the new update for the latest fill-ups:
In general I filled up one click past the shut off, used no A/C, did a bit of drafting, kept my speed under 60 mpg, but over 55 mpg, some coasting downhill with the engine off, shut off the engine, coasted up and waited at long traffic lights and have my tires inflated to the pressure listed on the side of the door (I might try five or ten percent over that some time in the future).
Just adding up the total gallons and miles gives: 355.5320 gallons over 14232.50 equals 40.03156 miles per gallon.
Finding the mean mpg of the fillups listed above gives 39.99797 mpg with an error on the mean of 0.5636812.
Either way it looks like the lifetime average for my Fit is 40.0+-0.6 mpg.
My CleanMPG chart keeps looking nicer all the time:

Fitting the mpg as a function of the number of days (x) I've owned the Fit to
gives an estimate the maximum mpg (a in the above equation) of my Fit (the mpg as x tends towards infinity) driven on my commut. Based on the mpg data I've recorded the fit gives a limiting mpg of 46+-2 with a chisquare of 1.1. This is lower than some of the mpg reported on this site, but perhaps that's due to the amount of hills I drive on my daily commute (shown in this post).
One thing I did note was that when I filled up with the highest octane possible (on accident, I wasn't paying close enough attention to the buttons when I pushed them) I saw a 2.7% increase in my mpg for that tank. Unfortunately, the price of the high octane was 5.2% higher than the lowest octane (which I usually use). Given the 5.2% greater cost of the higher octane case, the 2.7% increase in mpg (if it was really due to the higher octane gas) seems moot when one looks at miles per dollar.
And now on to the new update for the latest fill-ups:
Gallons Miles Tank's MPG
10.081 436.20 43.26952
8.756 371.20 42.39379
9.305 407.90 43.83664

9.214 407.30 44.20447
8.537 387.50 45.39066
That's 23 straight 40+ mpg tanks in a row now.10.081 436.20 43.26952

-58.3 on the dash today
-this is for the same trip and conditions i reported on yesterday, but with no a/c
-i coasted in neutral alot more than yesterday, but i had to quit out of courtesy for about 1/2 of the trip
-tires are still at 33 psi

drove a little faster = higher speeds of 55 - 60mph and used cruise control. I think the pump shorted me on gas but after pumping i noticed that the nose of the car was on a slight incline. It should average out.
507.3 miles
8.69 gallons
58.3 mpg
Next tank will be interesting data because I just installed the WAI and tires are at 65psig.

I took my grill block off last week and today had my 1st +60mpg segment.
90% I-95 P&G and FAS 55 to 45
62.9 AM going and 62.4mpg for the day
This is SG data but I have a 10% correcting in and this is +10mpg better than last time I went this way.
40mph avg (with city driving stops) 94 miles
Took my tank avg from 52.3 last Wed to 55.9 today
Very excited

Does Honda tell you how to adjust it to trim out the error?
some cruise control at 55-60mph. Installed FAS switch at last 120miles and installed WAI at beginning of tank along with tires up to 65psig. I do believe the last fill shorted me 0.5gallons.

drove from chesapeake virginia to fort worth texas to see family. a little over 3800 miles including city explorations etc/ did this on the last week of september. my back did not start hurting till I got there. Avg. 32.6mpg. using cruise control on the highways, and regular driving in the cities etc. lots of hills in tennessee and north carolina. Oil guage went from 100 to 70%.
If you ever visit kingsport tennessee eat at PALS. BEST HAMBURGER AND MILKSHAKE EVER!!!!!!!! I AM DEAD SERIOUS. PALS!!!! NEVER IN MY LIFE... NEVER IN YOURS EITHER.

40 mile drive today
56.9 on the Honda gauge -12.5% error =
50 MPG estimated
Coasted in neutral down ~6 hills
Got caught by traffic and red lights quite a few times
~50mph average speed
no p&g or FAS whatsoever
400lb load (driver and gear) + full tank of gas
little wind
net loss of 500 ft in very hilly terrain
front windows all the way down for the entire time
tires at 33 psi

I'm back on the normal fill deal. What I'm doing for the log is, I ran it down past the F mark (185 miles) and toped it off today to the 1st click Took about 3 gals. I'm just flushing the data from that partial. Suspect it was around 50 based on SG data as I went 30 more miles or 210 to the F tick on a 56mpg tank
This recent tank of mine was achieved by doing P&G from 55-40mph on the local Hwy(Psl 60) which is the majority of my trip and the Interstate was P&G from 55-45mph(Psl 60-65) which is only like 12miles of my commute. My MPG was 62.5. I think this proves that the glide time or mph difference is key with the difference being 15mph vs. 10mph. My last several tanks in the mid 50's was P&G from 55-45mph. This seems optimal for me, not too fast and not too slow.Recent tank:
631.8miles
10.1 gallons
= 62.5mpg
631.8miles
10.1 gallons
= 62.5mpg

With that in mind, how can you be sure this is valid?
Are you saying the 7mpg gain was just from letting the P&G go from 45 to 40 or a portion of the trip???
That's big if it's valid.
Be sure to comment on my effort to get the clean site overlords to pay some respect to Safety. Look at my note in the start here area. It sure look like they like to talk the talk but not walk the walk when the ignore the request to make this a stick note and say it exists but it does not.
If a few like us, that are new voice express the feeling it's needed, maybe we can get the old users to see that's important when properly presented. It's hard to force change. I think Wayne is more interested in making sure I use his confusing termonolgy as opposed to my message. FAS is a stupid term for shuting off the ICE and coasting. I have started using clear English to describe some of what I do.

Paul,
I forgot about me using CC. :P With that said I used CC when it was a steady incline or a short flat at a slight incline.....nothing major.
I think the difference may be closer to 5mpg but then again with the weather here lately it has been in the 50's in the morning and the 80's in the afternoon
Also, I think you are right about the safety issues. I want to be able to make it to work and home in one piece or the same condition that I left in. :P

My first 5 tanks:
Date---Miles_driven--Gallons---MPG(gauge)---MPG(actual)----MPG_error
10/5------300.0------7.84-------??.?----------38.3------------?.?
10/8------274.1------6.95-------46.5----------39.4-----------7.1(18%)
10/11-----350.0------9.40-------41.3----------37.2-----------4.1(11%)
10/15-----303.0------7.54-------45.4----------40.2-----------5.2(13%)
10/18-----314.0------8.38-------43.5----------37.5-----------6.0(16%)
between the mpg gauge and actual hand calculations at the pump I have seen and average of a 5.6 mpg (14.5%) optimism.
These tanks have a few common conditions:
- ~90% 55mph roads, 10% city
-tires: 33psi
-load: 300-400lb (passenger + gear)
-weekday trips of ~100mi+ round trips at 50-55 average mph
-no FAS (except for 3-4 times totaling 1-2mi on the 10/15 tank)
-very little P&G (none on most tanks)
-a few instances of "hard driving," especially in the 10/11 and 10/18 tanks, which included rushing to work (65mph+, fast starts, higher rpm shifts) and even some 5500 rpm shifts to see what the car can do
my top two 50mile drives resulted in 58.3 and 56.9 mpg gauge readings
so if i use the largest error of 18% to estimate those mpgs, I would have 47.8 and 46.7 mpg tanks
