You could do this on a 4 lane road. Interstate 95 in South Fla is 8 to 10 lanes and I did not have any issue at all from West Palm to Homestead. I did jump on the Fla Turnpike and it's 8 to 6 lanes.

How many lanes do you have?

two maximum.

i cruised today at ~66mph. no major issues. i'm going to try it for this week to see what difference in mileage i get. should be 41-42mpg. i hit 40mpg cruising at 68mph.

ok, my first official full 65mph tank is in. and my new personal best

313.5 @ 7.3 gals = 42.95mpg

not too shabby considering all i do is set the cruise at 65mph and go.

with only two lanes i cannot, from a safety standpoint, bring myself to cruise any slower. i just can't. that's slower than semi/tractor-trailer traffic and not safe, IMO.

Paul and I have proven that CC at 55mpg = 48mpg and I know CC at 50mph = at least 50mpg.

not really. i just drive "normally". i'm not ripping around town or really hard on the brakes. normal/slow acceleration with smooth shifts. keep it in gear if coming to a stop for DFCO. again, remember i drive 625 miles a week.... 530 of those miles are on the highway cruising at 65. not really a "typical" commuter.

i backed up my last tank with another over 42:

269.0 miles @ 6.3 gals = 42.6mpg

here's my gaslog

Great FE and proof of what a FIT can do if you slow down. Just for a lesson try a 55mph full tank and see what you get. That's what I have been doing for a few months and get upper 40's. Yours may get 50's ???

If you time your trip you will see 65 to 55 only adds around 5 min to the time.

yeah, trudat.

however, from a safety standpoint, i refuse to drive slower than 65. we only have two lanes around here and semis/tractor-trailers drive at 60.

if gas goes north of $5, then i will will consider it

I understand completely. Would not do that myself on 2 lanes like Fla T pike. I'm lucky. I-95 on my area is about 50 lanes wide lol. I just stay in the far right and no issues. When I did aggressive P&G w/ FAS and my low was 40 high 55... that was an issue for sure. Mostley from idiots that can't figure out how to pass a car and just lock into a lane. lol

But, like you say, when gas gets to $5 things will change

I know how to get 60mpg and can do that when I need to and on my normal commute.

One-second drafting behind a semi going 60mph would probably yield excellent mileage, too. I'd wager that the aero benefits alone would give easy 40+ mpg trips. I've gotten over 42mpg on trips where I was able to follow a Ford Excursion at a safe distance and keeping a steady 60-70mph in urban traffic.

Set tires at 55 PSI, shift at 2500, do not exceed 62 MPH, coast down hills, take advantage of DFCO when you need to stop, and use capital letters and punctuation.

44.8 MPG over 531 miles on the last tank (despite wdb and FitFlowJoe driving it )

I was gentle.

Back on topic, my last tankful was 1mpg better than my previous average. I may finally break the magic 40 barrier...

I wish that had worked for me. I didn't see any significant difference in mileage when I was using 65 as my maximum speed, compared to now when I use 70 as my maximum. I've resorted to aero and engine mods to break the magic 40.
