5MT 2010 Base model here...

I took a trip to Michigan for an extended weekend last Friday. On the way out, I filled up in Burns Harbor, Indiana, and then later that weekend filled up in Saginaw, with an indicated 39.1 MPG. On the way up, I took interstates and kept it around 70 MPH, and there were a fair number of semi-short trips before the Saginaw fillup. When I pulled into the Sam's Club to fill up, I pulled in behind another Fit owner - he had a silver 2010 Sport.

On the way home, I stuck to back roads (55-60 MPH), and filled up in Niles, MI. I generally kept a light touch on the gas, but would open it up when needed to pass, and I left the A/C off. There, I had an indicated 42.8. After the Niles fillup, I stayed on US 12 until I got to the edge of Gary, and then cut over to 80/94 and took expressways the rest of the way home. By this time, it was warm enough that I had to turn on the A/C, but I kept my speed around 60-65 on the expressways and 45-60 on back roads. There was one place where a moron in a heavily loaded dump truck couldn't wait for me to pass before pulling out, and there was just a short passing zone to get around him before a long hill climb - I had to floor it, and for the first time ever I even bounced off the rev limiter. Still, there was plenty of pep to get by. By the time I got home, the display was showing 43.1 MPG.

Big-city gas blends and city driving are murder on fuel economy. One of my worst stretches involved city driving and A/C - I saw the display go down to 31 MPG or so before recovering to my usual 35-36.

Any owners take their Fit to the track or just go mad out spirited driving and see that the gas level drop dramatically?

I see it drop dramatically... so whats the deal with this? Fuel pumps taking in too much gas? what is it?
Yes you could do better but that would require change. If you want Better FE you have to slow down and drive different. If not, keep doing what you are doing and don't look for gifts
No question the FIT can deliver good FE

Been doing some observation since getting the UG.

The GD3 5MT has very peculiar behaviors at 59mph and 66mph. At 59 mph, the iMPG is about 38 or so, and my tanks have reflected a drop when I drive at that speed (I usually stay in the 54-57mph range, or around 45-50mph if I'm alone on back roads), which didn't surprise me all that much. However I start to gain mpg increasing speed over 59mph.

My car will peak mileage between 65.7 and 66.0 mph. It only works on cruise too- my foot isn't steady enough. After about 10 minutes at 66mph it starts to push the iMPG up and up and up and will eventually sit at around 48-55 mpg which is absolutely nuts. Even on hills that would be in my estimation a 3% grade or so the iMPG would fall to 33 or so. I thought for sure it was the nature of MAP calculation but lo and behold on this long trip driving in the hills of northern lower Mich with the cruise at 66 I netted 47.9 mpg. The calibration of the UG was wayyy off - I had to drop to .924 to match the pump results. This was with zero hypermiling and not drafting as much as possible.

polaski I've asked others what they're set at in my: https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/gene...on-thread.html thread, you're the first to post up a calibration factor for the UG.
I stated the thread to gather user input.

I'm set at 1.13 and see a difference between it, the OBC mpg and calculated by the numbers. I'm still trying to 'tune' that in.

Having bought a used 2008 fit sport a month ago, I've finally emptied my first tank of gas (took over three weeks). A 35 litre fill took me 468 km for an average of 31.6 mpg. Most of this driving was in the city in 1st 2nd and 3rd gears.

Also the AC was on for 75% of the time without me knowing. When the ventilation dial is set to defrost the air conditioner automatically turns on. I disconnected this feature (instructions posted in a forum on this website) and am waiting to see if this makes a difference.

Interested to know the mileage on the '08. Regarding the AC - when it's kicking anything above 85F I go for the comfort factor.

When I'm going down the freeway at 65 mph on level ground the UG says something in the neighborhood of 45-48 mpg with a load of 51-55%. When the compressor kicks on that number drops and holds about 34-36 mpg, load of 60-64%, until it shuts off again.

If you have your fan on 1, it'll run for 5 seconds and stay off for 20+ so there isn't a big mileage hit once the car cools down. Run the fan on 4 and you'll burn lots of fuel.

Engine load at idle is typically 28.4%. With the AC that jumps to 43%.

Does heat have any affect with mpg? It's been in the mid 80's low 90's here in SD. I notice that my car isn't running as efficiently. *AC is not used, windows are midway down, light throttle mostly*

btw. I was on half a gal two days ago and it just dropped to E yesterday afternoon. Didn't seem right to me.

When I do all highway mileage I get 39-40 mpg. When it is combined city/highway I get 35-36. It is a m/t 2010 base. I fill the tank at a 1/4 tank and stop when it clicks off. After almost a year I can not complain with 4700 miles driven.

This doesn't make sense to me. The fan switch only controls the fan motor speed and how much air is cycled through the system. It shouldn't have any effect on A/C compressor use which is controlled by the temperature knob setting and on/off A/C button. How would a small DC motor use significantly more fuel just by spinning faster?

By moving more of the cool air away from the evaporator on the higher fan speed the thermistor becomes warmer.

I can't hang with you guys, last 2 tanks I only got like 27-28mpg, 07 sport, I'm gonna do a tune up and hopefully it'll go up.

The Temp knob does NOT change compressor duty cycle at all. The evap coils are maintained at a set temp by the car. Turning the knob towards hot with the AC on only adds in hot air.

Coyote is correct.

If you want the compressor to run less, use a lower fan speed and if that's still too cold turn it off.

Current Life Time Fuel Consumption Average

Just returned from a 1,747 mile trip from Northern VA to Central NH, rain all the way up, clear but windy coming back. Mileage averaged 36.6 MPG with a low of 31.1 and a high of 40.4, running with the flow which was typically around 72 MPH. Total mileage now 25,790 and lifetime fuel consumption average is now 37.0 MPG. Additional details on my webpage.

Do you really fill your tank like that everytime? I thought it was bad for the environment to fill past where the pumps auto shut off kicks in?

And, out here in Colorado, our speeds on the highway are 75, but everyone drives like its an f1 course lol. 90mph is normal speeds on our big highways. I have been pretty pumped though that without any effort the fit consistently gets 35-36mpg, even with our mountains and high speeds

I average 32 MPG in Los Angeles traffic. My Fit is my daily driver and I gas it often. 33 PSI in all my tires
