The only change in my driving habits when I am trying to get better gas mileage is when I'm going up and down hills I will gently accelerate on the down slope and lift off of the throttle as I approach the midpoint of the next hill.. Accelerating slowly using a very light foot to not activate the Vtec transition seems to save fuel also... I began doing this stuff because of getting just under 28 MPG after upgrading to the KWSC high boost kit, tuned with lower Vtec activation.. Using a throttle controller from Panson set on the slowest responding setting and doing the other stuff when traffic allows I am able to get a pretty consistent 32 MPG.. Using a light foot on the throttle allows you to rev higher without pulling back ignition timing or activating Vtec.

Highway: 35-36mpg
City: 32mpg

I do mostly city driving, with light throttle. But the car loves highways. Stick on highways for best results.

A lot of the suggestions in this thread are impossible and quite dangerous on California roads and highways. Even the slightest of the P&G will ruin the world. Way too many cars and most of them have an oblivious, selfish idiot behind the wheel. Then you have the hills, when heading south on 101, the uphills are gradual and long and the down hills are steep. So steep that if you leave the car in neutron trying to get some free momentum you'll be going 90-100 mph, so you are forced to brake and waste that momentum. So you do waste a lot of momentum. What about the trip north instead of south? There is always a damn head wind. Sometimes so bad that I'll go cc @ 60 and be getting 32 mpg. I do take 5 sometimes but once again, there are a ton of truckers, idiots, and more wind then 101.

I didn't exactly call bs on some peoples claim of 50+ mpg but I wasn't really believing. It is definitely possible even without the p&g, but you have to have perfect conditions for it. I've made the drive from the bay to santa barbara about 20 times now, and the only time the conditions were perfect was at 3 am and even then there are police out if you are trying to coast down those steep hills. I got the 50 mpg with a lot of luck and staying with the truckers are 55 mph most of the way.

Not just California. The methods have to be used realistically, which it sounds like you've done.

Leave the car in gear. You'll still maintain or possibly gain speed, and you'll be burning exactly ZERO fuel (in a manual transmission car) while doing so.

Yup. I commute east to NJ then back west to PA. I get ~45 MPG regularly on the eastbound leg without even trying very hard; I struggle to hit 38-40 MPG coming back.

I believe them, but like you said it has to be under perfect conditions. I know one of the guys who was posting those numbers - he was absolutely fanatical about it for a while. It's nice to know the car will do it, but it's not necessarily practical for most of us to try to match those numbers.

How do you get 32 city? I'm getting a straight 19 here in cold Montreal, Canada.

colder climates always get worse gasmileage. Hell when its 40 degrees F outside, the fit takes over 10 minutes to fully warm up. That cold blue light only stays lit til coolant is 128degrees or so. 185-195 is operating temp

I got 40 mpg last tank in this cold climate.

Have not been under 33 this winter, a very cold one at that.

Sup.

Im so jealous! I try and drive like a granny and I can just barely get 25. Most of my drives around town are about 10-15 mins though. Perhaps you drive longer distances?

There's the source of your MPG woes. Short trips are not good for gas mileage, and winter temperatures magnify the issue.

I do a fair amount of city driving, last winter I only did city driving and never went below 25.5 mpg, generally was closer to 30 though.

'13 Sport MT 26 - 35 mpg.

After about 9 months and 4500 miles (including a cold winter and more often than not around town driving) I am averaging 31 mpg. Best was 34.7, worst was 26.7 (RoadTrip app, not gauge which is often 5-10% off).

Third owner, 2007 GD3 5MT Sport - 140k miles.. Get about 275-300 miles per tank if all city driving and about 30-31 mpg almost like clockwork..

I'm between 37-40 mpg if all Highway.. I try to stay under 70 mph for the best mpg.

The previous owner definately didn't take good care of this car engine wise, but it still manages some great mpg.

Edit: Helps i'm on very flat land (Florida) though to get these figures.

I think I posted this elsewhere, but I guess this is where it belongs.

Car: '09 Fit Sport MT-bought March '09, sold March '15.

Miles driven: 85,258
Total fuel consumed: 2,350.3 U.S. gallons
Lifetime fuel economy: 85,258/2,350.3=36.28 MPG over the "life" of the car.

Considering the EPA "highway" estimate for the car was 33 MPG, I'm pretty happy with the lifetime average.

I will post averages for the '15 soon.

Agreed.
I have 60K miles on mine with an average of 31.5 mpg...but at least 25% of those miles are pulling a loaded trailer, 700 to 1,200 lbs weight. Also living in Texas I used A/C 80% of those miles.

Been a while since I updated, too... 2008 Fit Sport, all stock except for 205/50-15's @ 40psi.

Mileage since I bought it new: 74,050
Fuel used, total: 2,207
Average lifetime mileage: 33.55

About a 60/40 highway/city mix. Best tank was mid-39's, highway speeds are 70+, and the AC is almost always on.

I've been getting a constant 31mpg. Recent long trip yielded 33-35mpg, which I thought was good considering I am on 18" wheels.

2014 fit. Had it 2.5 months now.

Kilometres put on since new: 5243
Average about 6.0L per 100kms
Best I've had on the highway is 5.4L per 100kms.

I do mainly city driving and found I get better mileage since having her on a longer road trip.
