Just got a new 2013 MT Fit and have filled up twice. First tank got 30.5 mpg, and second got 29.1. I do well around town, but on I-80 from Des Moines to Iowa City (which is a rather hilly section of interstate) at about 78-79 mph, my milage tanks.

At the last fillup, I checked the tire pressure and found 30psi all around. Tires stated max 51psi, so I pumped them up to 46. Only a few miles on the new pressure so far, but I will report back. I don't expect major gains at that speed, as I believe wind resistance plays a much greater role than rolling resistance at those speeds, given the physics equation F=mv^2. Will update with next fillup!

Somewhere between 65 and 70 the Fit's aerodynamics come into serious play and tanks your gas mileage, this has been reported many many times on here and is true for me as well. Best mileage is actually around 60 mph, but I understand that is unreasonable in some situations.

46psi in the tires is kind of overkill and slightly unsafe, I hope that is warm pressure and not cold?

Yes, that pressure was with warm tires right off the interstate. I know it's super high, I'm just experimenting right now. I want to see what it does, but will almost certainly lower it some once I have some data. Will be driving back to Des Moines tomorrow and will fill up and report then.

Running around 34.5 mpg did get up to 34.8 mpg and back off. Driving to Dallas 12.26.2012 see how the fuel economy will be mostly highway and 1500 miles one way.

Wait for the tires to be cold then set them at 36 in front and 35 in the rear.

More weight in front; now fill up the tank and keep a record.

Try to keep that speed at 65 and record your MPG's.

Let us all know how you did ..........................................

Question for the 2012-13 MT Fit owners:

What is your RPM reading at 65 MPH ?

How loud is it inside the cabin at that speed ?

2012 Fit Sport MT Mileage

I have been checking the mileage with my 2012 Fit Sport since I got it about a month ago. Currently, I have driven 2000 miles since I bought it used with 11,800 miles on it. My tanks have ranged from 42 MPG with 90% highway driving to 33 MPG with 75% city driving. Most of the tanks are averaging around 38 MPG. I am pleased with it's mileage so far compared to my 2007 Dodge Cummins gets around 17 mpg average. I am checking by topping off the tank each time and dividing the mileage by gallons consumed. I have been running tire pressure a bit high, close to max but will drop it back to 40 psi.

Thanks for everybody posting their milage numbers in this thread. I am picking up a 2012 Sport 5spd with 13k on it this saturday in Gastonia NC (right east of Charlotte) and will be driving it back to lexington KY. I am interested to see how my milage rates. It is a 379 mile drive and I'd love to make it on 1 tank It may be wishful thinking, especially since I will be doing more like 80 mph vs 60 and there is some decent elevation fluctuations. We shall see and I'll post the numbers here.

Cruising at 80mph through mountains you'll get right about 30mpg. One tank wont do it unless you take it slower.

Have a great drive and hope you enjoy your Fit.

Thanks! I'm really looking forward to the drive. After the chore it was to get, having her will be sweet! I will let everyone know how she does.

I'm still at 127k on my 08 Base 5 speed, and I get about 32 ish MPG with 50/50 split on the highway/city driving.

My method is resetting the trip at the gas station, driving til the light comes on, fill up.
Whatever my trip gauge says, lets say 300 for example. 10 gallon fill up, 300 divided by 10 is 30. Thats my method. Usually it's about a 9.5 gallon fillup at the light.

So I'm doing good. I drive 20 minutes one way highway to work. Then 20 minutes 1 way to school on city streets. So thats my gas tank gone in a week.

My mpg had been dropping lately so I reset it. Averaging around 33 mpg and filling up once a week for about $30 (filling up with a 1/4 of a tank due to cold weather).

unfortunately this is the Honda Fit's PROBLEM its RPM is High !!!!
thats why gas mpg is not that great...especially if u use A/C

I can only get GOOD mpg if I dont use my A/C, and i drive between 60-65 mph (highway)
above 70 mph the MPG sucks...

Right 60 mph.

Also here in vegas drive 60 mph at the highway,
and ordinary people or even cops might shoot you for driving slow...

So far the computer is off by 1-3 mpg (OVER the actual of course) but I get around 39mpg for my 100 mile, mostly flat, 60 mph daily commute. I coast a lot but do not cut off the engine, I also drive when there is little to no traffic (but I have definitely been stuck in several random slow downs). I wish i could beat the shit out of this thing but I know that is not what it's for. Not having a 'fun' car makes not flogging this little go cart difficult-- peace!

My mileage has drop over the last 155 mile to around 31.5mpg. But part of this is the recent cold mornings where I let the car run for about 15 minutes to get the ice off the windows before going to work.

Yes, lived there for for a few years, town's full of the worst drivers i've ever experienced in my life and you're not even safe in the right lane if you want to drive slow. You're either going 80mph or you're going 10mph sitting in traffic. I just stopped using the freeways altogether there and just took surface streets everywhere unless it was between the hours of 10pm and 6am.

This is probably the reason for your gas mileage problems, shitty freeway designs, terrible drivers, and 120 degree heat.

Peace back at ya. Flog it bubba! Not all the time but sometimes. You'll still get over 30mpg and I'll wager that you'll be surprised at how much fun the Fit is to toss around. It's a total hoot.
