yah, i agree. the GD's have more of the JDM character especially
in white with those black headlight housings (which we MINI folks
call "joey mod.")

personally i think our Fit's have more character... a real luv/hate.
which is a good thing. the new ones are more like everybody's car.

yah, it does look promising for the GE folks.
i see the 09's as different cars even though they share the same name,
so i never thought of them as being superior or inferior to ours.
hey sold the SSI intake finally!!!

wonder if it'd be funny if i bought a new G37S (coupe) in AT for the
commute for the warmer months and keep my G35C (6MT) as
hobby car. lol
ofcourse i would keep the FitS for the winter commute and fun and
use it on the weekends to go grocery shopping and stuff...

i think. ive had it for 5+yrs and it's been great, but it's now time to
move on. im in no rush to sell it though and it's paid for.
actually the primary reason why i was considering the G37C was
for the AT. and that's because (as most of you business folks know)
driving MT with dress shoes can be a pita especially when you drive
like me heel&toe all the time. so, was thinking the G37C AT would be
my warm months commuter and dinner car with the wife.

my G35C is 6MT and the sus is modded. car drives like a sports car,
actually so want to keep it as my fun car.
i dont like driving MT in the dark..
well, at night, i just liketo let the car drive itself and i enjoy the mood. just cruising along
in AT is nice.
i donno, thought it be kinda fun to have that irony. 2 coupes almost
identical to each other, but the G37C would have all the techno package.

forgot to mention on my above post that i typically wear leather
slippers (shoes) to work since they have a rounded heel and wide...
they are in a fundamental sense, kinda similar to my Piloti shoes
i run on the weekends. but slippers as you all know are not that
great looking for business attire... so another reason why i might
entertain this option. but having 2 very similar coupes is a joke,
btw.
i'd probably re-visit the R32's first especially when
considering to replace one of my boxes.

ok, in other news....
So you've been using your high quality MicroFiber cloths to
detail your cars. you know that after a while they start to
get kinda stiff. stiff and brittle, almost. here's a way to soften
it up again...thanks to some nice tips from Detailer's Paradise
www.detailersparadise.com
1.Wash your MF cloths as you usually do.
2. Then, refill your washing machine with water, but this time
dont add any detergent... add 1/2 cup of white vinegar.
3. Let it sit for a few hours with the lid open so that the machine
doesn't start. DP recommends to leave it soaked overnight for very
stubborn towels...but 2-3hrs is usually enough to rid the soap and
tap water calcium deposits.
4. Then close the lid after a couple of hours and let the washing
machine finish its cycle. for those of you that have horizontal
mounted washing machines, just fill your 5gallon wash bucket with
your 'just cleaned' MF towels and mitts, fill the bucket full of
water + 1/2 cup of white vinegar and soak for a few hours.
pretty coool stuff.
Btw, im sure all of you already know, but....
dont wash your MF goodies with your cotton towels cause the lint
will get all over the MF towel. also NEVER use softeners (other than
white vinegar) for your MF towels. they clog up the microfiber and
will become almost useless.
happy detailing.

this damp weather today is making my MF towels take forever
to dry... anyway, good thing i washed my dd's this am... it's going
to get pretty windy tomorrow.
washing car + windy day = swirls.
why? cause while your car is wet prior to drying, grit gets caught
in the water droplets on the car... you wipe that grit across the
panel with your drying towel. you can reduce your chance by
using some spray waxes, or blot dry, but it is still not 100% unavoidable.

windy today and dang it, while i was loading my younger kid
in my FitS at the store, wind took the door and BAM! hit the
rail on the cart return.
luckily the rail isn't affixed to the pavement that solidly so
it didn't bend the door, but the paint scraped off.
at least it's at the very edge so can't really see. wheeew...
will touch it up later on. need to detail the interior anyway...

came to work this am and walked inside, i found a brand spankin' new
black 09 FitSport sitting inside our warehouse.
one of my
buddies at work recently got married, so i made a educated guess
that it was for his new wife. hahaha
(and ofcourse i was right).
he said he'd been checking out my FitS for a while parked outside
the office and how cool and perfect size it is. so he had to get one
for his own.
He let me check out the car, first time EVER i sat down in the 09's
cock pit. dang, it is quite a stepup from our 07-08's...it actually
felt like a CivicSi or something more 'specialized-ish' if that's a word. lol
It's an AT and has nav and everything. steering wheel looks and
feels good too. damn Honda did a nice job on the GE's. it's great.
the exhaust tip is a nice touch, the wheels are nice, etc. etc.
made my 11month old FitS feel kinda antique now. lol
but
that's a good sort of way.

i dont necessarily recommend this product on a daily driver, but if you
are one of those people that just can't stand having a dirty car you
might want to try this:
Griot's SprayOn CarWash.
basically a super luby detailer spray and plush towel set. Ive been using
it on my hobby cars when i accidentally go through some puddles of
water. not enough to wash the car, but just dirtified enough to irritate. lol
word of caution... remove the Griot's tag on the green MF towel when
you receive it. remove all of it, cut and use a pair of tweezers to
remove the rest. that tag swirls the paint. noted to griots on several
occasions and hopefully they will not use those down the road.
give it a shot:

so im getting kinda tired of the stock HU's sound... i have it on
Groove -1(bass) -3(treble) and it sounds probably the best out of
all the settings it has. but it still sounds like a cheap boombox.
i think im going to get a single din JVC with CD, MP3/USB compatibility,
7band EQ/front aux-in/HD radio. i was also seriously thinking about
a doubledin nav unit, but since the last time i posted about stereo's
i haven't used my TeleNav on my blackberry. lol... so i dont think it
would make sense for me to spend the extra $500+ just for the
larger touch screen... although it definitely looks nice.

i should have the stereo in my hands by tomorrw, per UPS.
looks like
im missing the USB-in on this HU, but it's ok since i will have HD radio. i
have a whole bunch of CDR's with my MP3 plus i can hook up my ZEN
player from the front, or CD changer later on if needed. it's the JVC
Arsenal KD-AH39. With the install kit + harness, only $205 shipped from
crutchfield. lol so cheap.
will solder the harness before the weekend so i can quickly do the install
on Sat.
here are the main features i searched on the HU because i dont plan on
doing a full blown stereo upgrade, nor nav for me. i just dont use enough
nav in my lifestyle.
1) EQ the more programmable bands you have, the better.
2) Aux-input/HD Radio - obviously you want more expandability. this HU
has HD Radio built-in which is cool. most HD Radio modules are like $100+.
3) Sound processor - these are always fun.
4) 5v preamp out - although im going to be using the interal amp,
if i ever decide to get external amps down the road 5v is hells better
than 2v or 2.5v especially when it comes to signal to noise ratio (SNR).
im simultaneously testing this unit for my G35C which requires a 5v pre
out due to the Bose system.
5) Display and layout. very simple design.
hope to have it running by sat.

humm... i found a very minor but slighty visible ding on my driver's door
near the bottom. not sure how i got that... there's no crease or anything
on the rest of the door.
i may have bumped something when i opened the door...
think im going to accumulate my dings and PDR them when it gets warmer
next Spring. dings are not repairable unless you heatgun the paint when
temps are below 50F. otherwise the paint will crack.

ok, so i put in my order for them WERFEN wheel center caps via
japanparts.com
no thanks to the strong yen

or shall i say the stinkin'
bush dollar

, those caps ended up being over $55 each.
costs more than the HU i bought for the FitS. hahahahaha!!!
hope to get them in a few weeks.
also ordered a dust car cover today for the G through Griot's.
they have a 15% off sale going on right now and just took
advantage of it.
so this winter each time i open the
garage door to pull out my MINI, i wont have to worry about
snow blowing all over my freshly cleaned G.
ARRRRRKKKK!!!

and got my big box of Griot's goodies today including
a gallon bottle of that SprayOn CarWash i blogged above. im
ready for winter mang.
