Friday here too!

Side note....people suck. Some (as my neighbor called them) fuckingdickface decided that my nice, clean and innocent miata needed to have a 24" x 6" hole cut into it's soft top.

All the compartments were open, glove box, center console, cup holders...and emptied onto the driver seat. Good thing I only keep napkins, a pen, spare bulbs, and windshield sunshade in the car. Granted the fuckfaces took my custom fit sunshield.

So now I had to ghetto fix the roof with some duct tape holding the big ass piece they cut out. Not sure I want to dump $450+ for a new top with glass defrosting rear window considering I was really considering selling this thing.

Needless to say....thieves suck.

Yeah pretty lame. Guess I should've just left the doors unlocked. I have a brake lock so its not a huge deal....would've been cheaper than a new top. 200-350 for new top with plastic window....or $450+ for glass window with defrost like the one it currently has.

Just because I don't like convertibles, I'd put a hardtop on it. Less wind noise and no more fabric to cut open.

If hardtop wasnt $1000+ I'd consider it. Less road noise, stiffer, safer, looks awesome.

But I do also love riding with the top down 99.9% of the time.

Looking at repair options.

-Stitch piece in place and seal with black silicone.
-Buy some vinyl, adhere on inside and outside along perimeter of hole to hold original piece, OR just buy a big enough piece of vinyl to cover hole.
-Use gaffers tape/duct tape to hold piece.

Think the most elegant/permanent solution is stitching and sealing the stitch. the 'frame' of the repair would just have a bead of black silicone.

Cheapest/ghetto option is tape.

Vinyl patch would seal...but would look marginally better than the black tape since it won't match the existing black top.

Thats the order of my preference currently. I did just order black gaffers tape as a temp fix to continue my research and to get rid of the gray duct tape that'll probably leave some residue.

How about a car cover and then only drive it with the top down since you have another car?

I think I would go that route and then replace the top if I decided to keep the car.

Yeah if Im keeping car (seems less and less likely lately) I'd continue to run the repaired top. Seems like replacing the top is annoying....not impossible...but annoying. Time will tell. Temp fix, black tape. Seal with silicone in the future. Just want it to look decent and seal/keep water out.

If I was a buyer and I saw this duct tape fix I'd think 'what else is wrong?'

id get that 450 repair kit, fix it and sell the car.
reason being if you have doubts keeping the car, u won’t keep it. sell it and turn it into cash.

250-450 is a completely new top.

Debating if a repaired top will cause a loss in value of $250-450.

For example sell miata for $3000 as-is with repaired existing top....or new top for $3500. I feel that its a wash either way as I'd spend ~$400 + time to put a new top but end up with the theoretical same $3000.

Time will tell. I bought some black gaffers tape for a temp repair to get rid of the silver duct tape that is probably leaving terrible residue/adhesive on the remaining part of the top.

Anyhow enough ranting. Whats on the weekend agenda for you guys? I got back yard work to do....lay gravel to continue firepit project and hopefully framing, saturday getting some tattoo stuff done....sunday...hopefully stay home and relax for easter.

Hoping for a relaxing Saturday and then making a 670 mile drive on Sunday to visit the parents. Just the boy and I are going. It's his Spring Break...might as well spend it in South FL. I can do my job from there while he goes to the beach with his grandma.

Wife has to work so she will stay home and hold down the fort.

Yes I do on occasion. I'm wondering if your tires are getting hot & raising the pressure enough to cause the tire nanny to light up. If I had that happening I'd be an unhappy guy.

Darn I am sorry that happened to you. I have never locked my Meotter for that very reason. I also have disabled the remote trunk release in the center console. I hate #$%&*!! thieves & they are everywhere it seems.

I'd go with a glass window top since that is what your car came with. At least I think so.

Sorry this happened to you.
