Nobody who knows me would ever talk badly about any of my cars to my face. The biggest problem with our fit is that honda does not seem to advertise it, so when you say you have one people give you that vacant stare.
i wanted one from the first time i drove one. i have raced cars before and i found the fit has loads of fun built right in, i do agree with the post about the twisty roads, i can lose pretty much anything i want to.

After they make their well thought out and executed remark I just smile and say "Yeah, if turned on my kitchen light on in the middle of the night and saw this crawling across my floor, I'd probably step on it." After a good laugh they invariably ask the mileage and after I tell them, the SHUT UP!

its all about the gas card now. power, torque... these things have lost their appeal even to people who can afford to have crappy mileage. no matter who you are speaking with telling someone the MPG your getting will either shut them up, or make them talk even more trash because they are jealous. if people stopped being so darn ignorant and read the news they would see the fits potential. its a roomy vehicle, it gets great gas mileage and its tons of fun to drive. not to mention the many routes you have to choose from when you are customizing one. the honda fit is ranked number one automobile for under 25k for a reason. i mean think about it. how many higher horse power cars can you score for 25k? civic si, subaru wrx, dodge srt4, pontiac solstice, etc... these are all cars with way more performance and looks than ours but for some reason we are ranked number one.

While I agree that the fit is the sh!t...Fits are more than a ticket to good mileage. For me... once I drove the fit... it just kinda' grew on me. It's easy to see why it has it's own "cult" following. Once I bought it... it was much more than than just economical transportation... I happen to LOVE my car! It's part of the family...& you can depend on it accordingly.

American auto perception still amazes me. How can people still be talking down about small cars in the midst of $3.80++/gal gas??

Does it need to reach $10/gal like in the UK and other european areas for people to stop nocking small cars?

America is the ONLY country that has this bigger is better mentality.

Well, gas will never be cheap again so maybe time will change things.

I'm all about small cars now.

That is the answer to all problems. Someone finally blurts the truth. I applaud you. Job well done.

I usually respond by making fun of how they cry like a baby and complain that these gas prices "just aren't fair". Then they get on the "I need my 4x4 for driving in our snowy winter conditions". Then I tell them that they must be terrible drivers, because I drive my Fit in the same conditions as their 4x4's. Then they say "you'd probably drive a 4x4 if you could afford it". Then I say "actually, my 4WD truck is parked at home for most of year unless I'm towing my boat or need it to haul stuff". They usually shut-up after that exchange

Yeah, people who think they need 4X4's because they get snow on and off for a few months a year are pretty ignorant.

I have a RWD car ONLY and have driven in New England snow for years without a problem.

FWD is totally fine for snow. Unless people don't know how to drive.

And then after a successful night, "dirty mode" can be implemented.

Just without the Stormtrooper costumes.

Time to renew my membership to the "Somebody made fun of my Fit" club for 2008.

I was driving through an little bit of an upscale neighborhood today checking out some property and as I passed a house with an open garage some guy yelled "Whooo yeah baby, a FIT" and started laughing. He had an Acura or some other generic car he was working on in the garage.

Seems like the 17's bring out all the comments

Oh well, I kind of laughed it off. Anybody who isn't familiar with the car just figures it is a gutless wonder; another wimp in a sea of economy cars. Little did they know I was out the day before putting it through it's paces
