Is the '08 Fit gonna be cheaper?

Hi Everyone,

I'm going to be getting a new car in the fall. I'm a poor college student and I can't afford much. Right now I'm looking at used Honda Civics. But I might try to get some money out of my parents to see if I can get something better than what I'm looking at, like maybe a new Fit.

Do you guys think the '08 Fits will come down in price after the '09s are out?

Will there even be any '08s available?

Is it too late?

How much do you think an '08 would cost?

Thanks for the help,
~Nate

when i was shopping for my '08, i was told by several dealers that all of their '08 stock would be gone by the time the first '09 rolled on the lot... and sold for at least sticker price. i wouldn't count on a deal.

that's what i'm fighting with right now, should i get a 2nd one before their gone... hm.

I agree that you will be very hard pressed to find any new 08 models after the 09s are out. My guess also is that once the 09 Fits have been out a few months, the lightly used Fits will no longer be selling for near or above MSRP of new Fits like they are now.

Hmmmm, darn. Well then does anyone know the price difference between a '08 Base Auto, and a 09 Base Auto?

If I remember correctly, the base price is being reported as an increase of ~$670.

Hope that helps!

When they were doing the comparison, the 08 didnt include destination charge, and the 09 did. With destination charge both are the same.

You are right on the 08 base price not including the destination charge, since it comes directly from the Honda website. Would be interested to know why you say the reported 09 price includes the destination charge? Maybe because the reported new price difference between the two is exactly the same as the current destination charge? If so, that's a pretty good observation!

We have no way of knowing for sure if the price is correct until the official release, but either way I can't recall ever seeing a base price reported that includes the dest charge.

Honda boosting Fit production to meet U.S. demand - Autoblog - $14,620 (09 base fit)

Honda.com - $13,950 (08 base fit)

Difference - $670

I hope the '08 Fit gets cheaper because my little brother wants one too after he drove mine. He wants the '08 Fit because the '09 looks "Retarded Ugly." I hope he and I have the same taste in aftermarket mods, I'm really curious on how he's going to mod his hamster.

My friend just bought one today here in San Diego (expensive Fit city). She paid $16,200 for a Silver AT Base.

I drove up to Irvine in April and got my Fit Sport AT for $16,122... I know San Diego's expensive, but it doesn't seem like the Fits will be getting any cheaper, especially now that EVERYBODY has or is wanting to catch onto the small car trend.

Yea, sorta *** that everyone's flocking over a small car now. People considered em death traps and somewhat pointless/no use(granted some were a lil dangerous lol) but still. Around here even I'm seeing more and more "smaller" vehicles which is sorta weird for ND I guess/a smaller city state. Granted I still see large trucks and what not, but sorta unlike before..when everyone drove minivans, suv's, and trucks around here and first time drivers drove some of teh "smaller" vehicles...sorta changed.

I don't know about the '08, but I have an offer to purchase an '09 Sport automatic at MSRP. Autosatinvoice.com said that this is a good deal. Is it? I sense that it is. I, too, was struck by the projected difference between the '08/'09 models to be the destination charge. If this is so, the '09 seems to have a lot more bang for the buck for virtually the same price....

I can tell you that if you find an '08 after the '09's come out, it will be pre-owned. ALL the dealers here are out of the '08s already, and the factory isn't making any more. Whatever has shipped at this point is all there is. The dealers have been taking deposits and if one arrives that isn't spoken for, it's snapped up pretty quickly, usually before you can get there to test-drive it. Yesterday I was waiting to test-drive a Sport AT and 2 basics were sold within a half hour!

The supply is going to dry up completely before the '09's ever get here. There has been much more demand than supply, nation-wide, since gas prices went so high, and because this little car is almost a loss-leader for Honda. Honda makes little money on the Fit, and they'd really prefer to get people into a Civic or better yet, an Accord, so they are not likely to improve the Fit very much. IF they did improve it a lot, they'd have to raise the price, and then there goes your entry market. See the merry-go-round?

Anyway, good luck to your brother - he might be able to buy a used Fit once the '09's come out, if the '07 owners want to trade it in.

p.s. I think the '09 Fit is "retarded ugly" too, and so does my 17 y.o. son.

I agree with Juliane. I've been looking at certified preowned fits for a while, and they fly off the lots. And most of them are priced at or near the MSRP of a 08 fit, but they have a few thousand miles on it. I think it still might be worth it to pay the extra amount and get a new 09 fit, even though you get an extended warranty with the CPO cars. Now all I can hope for is a good deal (at or very near MSRP) on a 09 fit, cuz I can just barely afford it.

O and thanks to everyone for all the replies, it helped a lot.
