hybrid in the future?
Hoo boy, the question again. A quick search turned up 100 threads with hybrid references but you may like these best:

This comes up over and over here on fitfreak. The latest best info available is that Honda will have a new DEDICATED hybrid vehicle for us in the near future. This implies that it will NOT be based on the Fit.

Although Honda hasn't come out and said that the Fit will be a hybrid, Honda is planning to release a new hybrid in 2008. The MSRP on the new car is planned to be in the 18K range and is to be based on the Fit platform. This is in line with the Insight being discontinued later in 2007.

Sedan Likely
Early rumors have said that it is likely to be a sedan, not a hatchback, based on the current Fit sedan, called the "City" (not available in US).
My theory is that the Fit is designed for suburban drivers, who lug more stuff and do more highway driving. The Honda hybrid system uses the gas-only mode on the highway, and the battery/gas combo in the city. So the "hybrid" engine really only saves gas in city driving--thus the hybrid "City". There's little point to the extra expense of a hybrid engine in the suburbs where its not going to save much gas.
