Ok a friend of mine swears this is true, not an urban legend: he says that if you lock your car with the remote that thieves can capture the radio wave signal and play it back to unlock your car. They can't take the car itself but go after laptops, gps, etc. He tells me that this is now the #1 way to get into a car at a highway rest stop. They figure they've got 5 minutes to get in and out and leave no trace. The actavate the signal from their car and if an alarm goes off they just drive away or walk away looking inocent. Supposedly they often work in teams where one follows you whle the other goes after your stuff. If you start back to your car the guy who is tailing you sends a signal to the the guy robbing you.

not sure about the robbing part.
but yes they do have gadgets to capture your frequency
from the air and re-use it to get into your car. possibly even steal
it if it doesn't have emobilizer.
they also do the same thing with garage door openers.
get right into your house the easy way.

anyway back to the car thing. this is why i have a passive alarm.
the car arms itself. meaning i send it no signal for them to capture.

Any decent alarm these days have code hopping, so if they capture the code you used, its more than likely not going to be the same one next time, so stealing that signal wont necessarily do them any good. First thing I do on any car I get is put a good alarm system in it. My Fit had less than 100 miles before I had one installed.

of course you could get 4 police style wheel/tire locks. that way they can't steal the car or the wheels.

That's rough. You should carry a purse for all your gadgets, it's what I do!
Be glad he got what he wanted though or else he may have damaged your car just for spite. You can't win.

Oh woah that is hysterical. Reminds me of something that happened to be the other day. I got an email from someones phone whom I did not know, asking why I didn't have my phone that day (by coincidence, my cell had a dead battery). I emailed back, "bored without my phone today, nudes please!"
I didn't get any nudes, but I did get a laugh and an introduction haha.
